  1. I have everything and nothing left to do for the holidays. Everything because I haven’t done anything yet; and Nothing because I’m not planning to do anything.

      1. I’m all but done. One of those two cards she received was mine! Just cookies left and party planning (but menu is already decided and list of ingredients is written up, ready for shopping).

      1. I’ve talked about it here before. Horrible horrible horrible first year as a young married. Made the determination back then that I would be done early from then on so I could just sit back and enjoy the holiday season.

    1. We have those programmable lights on our tree but YA and I disagree about how the lights should flicker and we’ve been changing the settings as we notice… a little passive aggressive fun for the holidays!

  4. I’m still trying to figure out which Medigap plan to choose! Once that’s out of the way, I’ll get to what little holiday stuff we do. Mostly food related. A trip to Ingebretsen’s, perhaps sometime next week, for some of the essentials. Medisterpølse, pickled herring, and some other fixin’s for smørrebrød. For us, Christmas is mostly about traditional foods.

    I gave up on holiday cards and Christmas trees several years ago. We’ll probably hang a wreath, put out a few christmassy decorations, and some strings of light. It might help get me in the spirit of things if I play some of my Christmas music.

    For once I ordered my Amaryllis bulbs in plenty of time, but they haven’t even sprouted yet. Hope they weren’t frost damaged on the way here.

    2. Husband turns 65 this February, but he is covered under my insurance, so he won’t have to get Medicare supplements until I retire in 2 years.

  5. I took the tomtens out of the closet and put them on the buffet. You can see them in the header photo. I didn’t have them out last year as out grey cat kept dragging them off and playing with them. She tried again this year, as did the younger cat, but I sprayed them and they are leaving them alone when we are awake. I found one on the floor this morning. I won’t put the tree up until the week of Christmas, and I plan to anchor it to the wall with fishing line and a hook. I have to get the Klaben recipe from my German cousin. I will make Stollen next weekend.

    1. Pets can be vexing at Christmas. Some years we had puppies that wanted to chew on the wrapped presents. In our first Minnesota Christmas my family’s old tomcat Timmy would slip up into the center of a Christmas tree, then navigate from branch to branch so he could whack glass ornaments and eat tinsel.

  6. I got a tiny start on the cards, and I brought up the box of lights and most important decorations. It’s been sitting on a living room chair for three days now. I may not bring up the tree, and just use the lighted “birch sticks” instead this year, but we’ll see. That would mean I can just go to basement when I think of other things I want out of that second box.

  7. We will be busy with the bell choir this month. We will play at an ecumenical concert at the LDS church on the 15th, at the yearly rendition of Lessons and Carols at our church on the 16th, and a separate concert with the church choir on the 20th.

    1. .Yep, the music will keep you hopping. Our Wellspring Singers do a bereavement ceremony, there is Song Circle and at least one party where we will sing mostly carols. Then the Unitarians have a wonderful mid-December “talent show” celebration (including choir and my “band”), after which we have two Sundays off. : )

    2. I have some fabric reindeer made by. little Hmong woman many years ago. They hit the floor repeatedly every holiday season. It doesn’t matter where I put them, the terror Tabby can get to them.

  9. I have cards in the house – letter not yet written. Some gifts for Daughter purchased, but nothing else. With new dogs in the house, not sure how we will manage the tree – the white one will likely see it as a place where we have hung a bunch of toys for her. Baking will happen closer to Christmas – krumkake is finicky and I don’t like to make it too eaerly. Have already begged off the first party of the season due to a cold (thank you Darling Daughter)…

  10. Christmas traditions often change radically late in life. I’m in a new apartment in a new state, so . . . no tree, no lights, no friendly neighbors, no cards. With my various health issues I cannot go shopping, but I can go clicking. Thanksgiving was rich in many ways this year. I came home from our celebration with ideas for eight gifts for my family. I’ve already gone clicking and now only have to manage the wrapping, trying to cover the gifts without taping my fingers to them.

  11. I haven’t done much so far. Lights on the house, Lindor truffles in the advent calendar. Watched Rudolph on Tuesday. Went to the Grand Meander and the Landmark Center holiday bazaar today. I probably won’t be doing a whole lot of decorating or anything. Got my work schedule for the flower shop December, and I’m going to be spending a lot of time there.

    My next thing will be to get out the Christmas music.

  12. I can’t believe how much even those who haven’t done much have done. Here it is the very beginning of December and so many of you have really got things going. Even when I have been able to do holiday stuff, by this date other years, all I’ve done is haul the box of Christmas books from the attic down to the main floor. This year, of course, that hasn’t happened and won’t happen until someone else thinks to do it. Same with all the other stuff.

    1. Is there any reason why you couldn’t ask the twins to go find those Christmas books? Not necessarily the whole box, but perhaps pick out a few favorites, to bring down? Or is it difficult to get into the attic?

  13. Well, I have asked my children for their cookie orders, and bought 6 lbs of butter at Walmart for Chirstmas baking, The German brandy and Myer’s rum is purchased for the Stollen, and I have a turkey now for Christmas dinner.
