On Tuesday afternoon I stopped at the library and it started to rain a bit right then. As I was leaving, I was behind a young mom and her daughter, who was maybe 7 or 8. As they reached the end of the covered portico, the mom said “It’s sprinkling a little. There must be a rainbow somewhere.”
Most people would say “run quick to the car” or “let’s get home before it really starts”, perfectly acceptable. But I was struck by this mother’s wonderful way of looking at life. It there is rain, there must be a rainbow.
What adage would you like to live by?
“If there is horseshit, there must be a pony.”
Actually, I’m kind of drawn to “Let’s get home before it really starts!” Apply your own metaphorical interpretations to that.

back in 1972 johnny carson introduced wayne dyer who had written pulling your own strings which johnny enjoyed. i bought the book and i believe it is in the dedication page he quotes the declaration of independence
“all history hath shown mankind will suffer evils while evils are sufferable rather than to right himself buy abolishing the means to which he has become accustomed”
maybe it’s because it’s such a mouthful that i remember to slow down each time i recall it. but it’s always true that i need to get me some more of that

wayne also reported in the intro that his teacher had been heard talking to someone calling wayne a scurvy elephant… when his mother asked the teacher if this was true the teacher figured out he must have overheard a discussion where he was labeled a disturbing element
here’s to all the scurvy elephants out there

Is it food? Is it a weird sexual practice? Is it the name of a tomato? After all there is a Mortgage Lifter tomato growing in my garden. Maybe it is a new financial service like thrive to.
Got it—a medication name.

The story I heard is the guy who developed it used sales of the plants to pay off the mortgage. I’ll be happy if the actual tomatoes save on my grocery spending. They are setting in, so I live in hope.

It is a fabulous name, isn’t it? To think of a tomato eliminating your mortgage is just too much of a fantasy to resist.

I didn’t actually even think of the economic implications behind the Mortgage Lifter. I just figured it was going to be a big big tomato.

My kids are tired of me saying ‘Where’s the challenge in that?’.
My wife gets tired of me saying “It will be fine”.
Sometimes though, you gotta quite worrying about everything and just let it happen. It’s a trick though knowing which thing to quit worrying about!

adages to live by are really a great thing
a truth to hang your hat on

they pop like truth and point to goals
directing me to paths

It’s going to be another hot one today, so I will be doing archaeology in the basement again, which is grinding this one into me:
Don’t put it down, put it away.

Also, we too are people who look for rainbows in sunny sprinkles, and sun dogs in sunny bitter cold. Keeps one going.

When I used to work as a social worker/case manager for a county I had a saying posted in front of my phone:
JUST BECAUSE THERE IS A CRISIS IN YOUR LIFE, IT DOES NOT MEAN THERE IS A CRISIS IN MINE.
I learned to never, never, ever take messages or answer the phone at 3pm on a Friday afternoon. Sure enough someone had run out of food, diapers, money, sanity, or patience and it just occurred to the person at 3pm on Friday that they had to somehow get through the weekend.
Problem-solving starts on Monday.
