In the news today, Strawberry Fields, the spot that sparked John Lennon’s imagination and led to their great song will be opening to the public soon. You will be able to walk the gardens and grounds and there is a visitor center with interactive exhibits that highlight Lennon’s early life.
According to the story, about 60,000 visitors gather at the gates to Strawberry Fields every year.
What spot inspired by song would YOU like to visit?
Well, for a few that I’d like to re-visit:
“I Left My Heart in San Francisco”
“April in Paris”
“New York, New York”
…thinking…

I’d like to visit another “place” on the Sgt. Pepper album:
Given another crack at it, I could do 64 a whole lot better than I did it the first time. That pretty much applies to every year starting with ten, but there isn’t a song about that.

Rise and Shine Baboons,
Moon River. I want to go there. The songwriter, Johnny Mercer is from Savannah, Georgia, home of the Savannah River, which, if I recall correctly, is the Moon River of the song. But, then, maybe not. But not matter what the source of the song I will go to Savannah at any opportunity.

We were in Savannah last spring. It was lovely.

Yesterday at the end of the Binder Day, Linda posted a comment about cats disorganizing things. Recently a client, a cat lover, send me this. It cracks me up:

Did not work, and it is web based, too.

WordPress only likes stuff that comes directly from the web on to WordPress with no intermediary steps. It looks like you had it saved as a picture onto your desktop and that’s what WordPress doesn’t like. Well it’s one of the things that WordPress doesn’t like.

Just back from visiting Alberta and listening to Ian and Sylvia sing about it. I visited Banff and the prairie. My favorite Ian Tyson song “Red Velvet” is about living on the Alberta prairie.

I don’t think I should care to visit Gary Indiana, no matter how cute the song.

That’s how I feel about Early, Iowa. We actually drove there to see it because of Greg Brown’s song, and there was absolutely nothing there.

We used to drive to Early, was close to Storm Lake, IA, when I was a kid – dad would get popcorn from someone there…

It’s still close to Storm Lake. I don’t know about the popcorn place, though.

My home town is near Early and Storm Lake. In the ‘70s I drove through Early on my way back and forth from college in Ames, Iowa. There was nothing there then either, except apparently Greg Brown’s Grandma’s garden and her canning supplies from the 50s and 60s.

We are listening to Silvestre Reveltuas composition “Night Of The Maya” while Husband roasts tomatillas for Texas green enchilada sauce. I don’t know if I want to go to the Yucatan Peninsula–too hot and too many big insects.

I have no desire to get acquainted with spiders the size of dinner plates. I think they are called Bird Spiders.

I’ve been to Graceland in Memphis. It was so interesting. It was clear standards of “Big” have changed—the house itself was much smaller than I expected. Then when we took the tour it became obvious that Elvis was a hillbilly with money—if you could paint it gold or put glitter on something, he did so. But it was not at “classy” or what I would admire.
It was also so sad to me. Elvis was such a musical prodigy, doing his best work in the early days of jamming with other musicians. The recordings of that time, both visual and audio, are awe-inspiring. He made everyone a better musician. When he went to Vegas it ruined him. Too produced, too much violin, too not him.

Thanks for this reflection on Elvis, Jacque – I believe you’re right.

I also made Fench bread today. Paris is worth a trip. I also made a Punjabi chicken in onion tomato gravy. I will have to think long and hard about visiting India. I will do no cooking tomorrow.
