I think I watched television as a kid about the same as others. Captain Kangaroo, Romper Room. Too old for Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers, but just the right age for Shari Lewis and her puppets, especially Lamb Chop. I knew it was Shari doing the voices but I was fascinated by hearing Lamb Chop speak without seeing Shari’s lips moving.
So imagine my dismay when YA came home today with a Lamb Chop chew toy for the dog! And as if that’s not bad enough, it has a main squeaker along with a squeaker in each foot for a total of five! The din is awful and it gives me a sick feeling in my stomach seeing Lamb Chop getting chomped.
Do you have a favorite character from your childhood that you would hate to see turned into a dog toy?
You’re right, VS – I was a little old, but my sister watched Shari Lewis, and I was fascinated, too. I think Mr. Bunny Rabbit on Cap’n Kangaroo would not be a good thing…

Scooby Doo. It is a dog-eat-dog world but I’d rather not see that.

Reminds me of the classic joke from “Cheers.”
NORM: enters the bar, says his usual ‘Afternoon, everybody.”
WOODY (or maybe SAM): “How’s the world treatin’ you, Norm?”
NORM: “It’s a dog-eat-dog world, and I’m wearing Milk-Bone underwear.”

Rise and Shine Baboons,
As a child I had a fascination with … Arthur Godfrey and his horse Goldie. I understand the horse. Most little girls have a horse fantasy. But Arthur Godfrey? I look back at old YouTubes of him and I thinK WHY? So-ooo, I have decided that “they” can make a dog chew toy of Arthur Godfrey and I would not mind at all. But no chewing up Goldie.

Thought I was the only baboon old enough to remember Godfrey. I knew him as a radio voice. When we got a TV there was a lot of “Jesus, he looks like THAT!” moments, and he was one for me.

The McGuire Sisters were sometimes on Arthur Godfrey… and an Irish singer Carmel Quinn?

Several years ago Carmel Quinn was making a tour and she came through the college theater. I didn’t know her at all. I remember she was very nice, but, also, time hadn’t helped her singing voice.
I don’t recall if there was much of an audience…

I remember him as a radio voice. He was apparently also a private pilot. He did a song called Teterboro Tower based, I think, on an actual incident.

I don’t remember Goldie but I do remember Arthur Godfrey. I agree that he would make a great chew toy.

Later in life, like at age 7-12 years I liked Art Linkletter, too. I found his interviews with children so entertaining, plus he featured Dr. Joyce Brothers, psychologist often.

She out-Tammys Tammy Wynette, who could stand stock still and get a collosal sound, hardly moving a facial muscle. This girl is astonishing.

OT – Just returned from my first trip of the season to the local farmer’s market. Only two vendors offering just a few veggies: An assortment of lettuces, mint, green onions, kale, sugar snap peas and freshly picked strawberries. I was a little disappointed, but what can you do? Picked up some strawberries and sugar snaps, and as a consolation stopped at Caribou’s to pick up a latté through their drive-through. When I got to the window they informed me that someone else had paid for my coffee! I’ve heard of this sort of thing happening before, but it’s the first time it has ever happened to me. Sure gave my spirits a boost. Thank you, kind stranger.

I don’t think I ever watched Sheri and Lambchop very much; knew of her, but that’s about it. … we probably didn’t get that channel. 🙂
We had a ‘Mr Bill’ dog chew toy; that was really fun to hear him say “Oh Nooooo!”
Our son has never heard of him… nor was he very impressed…

I remember watching Shari and Lambchop a lot and loving them. But I sat there wondering, is Lambchop made from a sock?

That’s it
Maybe a little backstory is good
That may be the funniest movie of all time if your in need of an uplifting ditty
I don’t have any concerts I’m going to but I did just implement guitar night at my house on wednesdays seeing as our old venue at Lund’s byerleys community room looks unlikely to open any time soon
After 1 1/2 years off I had a bit of a challange hitting the high notes in my old standbys
Next concert with me singing is next Wednesday
It’ll have to do

OT – Did anyone watch the men’s single, semi-final tennis match between Djokovic and Nadal? What a match!

I always found Lamb Chop smarmy and annoying. I drove 500 miles today in dreadful head winds. I am glad to be home.

I would hate to see the Velveteen Rabbit become a chew toy. Or Pooh, or Piglet. And certainly not Eeyore.
