We are having a lovely time with family, and I must admit this is a pretty wonderful Christmas. Everyone is getting along, the food is good, we aren’t being driven and perfectionistic. We are taking naps.
Son reminded me of a Christmas when daughter was about 2 when we traveled to my parents in Luverne and we all promptly came down with the stomach flu. My favorite Christmas pasts were those when my parents were at our home with us and the children were old enough to participate in the festivities without being too old to be snarky and disinterested.
My only hopes for the next Christmases is for us to be together and to keep having peaceful times with one another.

At this point I really like gathering with someone at THEIR house, as we are doing with friends later this morning, for a simple meal that we can contribute to. I’m glad we don’t have to travel this year.
One of my most memorable Christmases was when Joel was three – he was really into construction machinery, and Husband had built him a crane out of pine, swiveled and had pulleys and everything – he could sit on it. The look on his face when he realized all this was really something.

Happy holidays all. I’m not sure I can pin down a favorite Christmas memory, as I am so very blessed to have many many many of them. YA isn’t even up this morning but we will be doing stockings when she finally comes down. We couldn’t find a movie we liked so will just be taking it easy. Going to Hudson later this afternoon for a small gathering. I am currently enjoying the ritual of watching the Christmas story on TBS and I also cogitating on how to get the egg carton back to Alan because after last night, I am now in possession again.

As I think about it, Christmas itself has always been a bit fraught for me. I’m pretty sure I expect too much of it.
It seems like all the “good parts” are over by the time we actually get to the day itself. But the baking, the singing, the wrapping, I’ve always enjoyed those bits.
Most memorable (that I will discuss) has to be my first Christmas with the s&h. I was still in choir in those days and had handed him off to friends for the candlelight service.
I was so tired I was completely unaware the during the Silent Night singing at the end of the service I had leaned my head into my little handheld candle, until It was brought to my attention by the s&h’ s godmother beating out the singeing hair with her hands.
Nasty smell, burning hair.

The Westie and cat are snoozing, I have tourtiere filling simmering on the stove, daughter and Dil are constructing a charcuterie board, Grandson is quietly playing with blocks, and Husband and son are snoozing.

Favorite movies. Well you all know I love many iterations of A Christmas Carol. I am particularly fond of the Patrick Stewart and also Albert Finney in Scrooge. But I also love George Scott and Henry Winkler and Mr. Magoo. Absolutely Alastair Sims. The Muppets Christmas Carol can make me cry. But I also love Miracle on 34th St. Only the original. And Prancer. And the Bishops Wife.. this also makes me cry. And if we’re gonna talk about crying then i gotta mention It’s a Wonderful Life. Because I am not capable of sitting through that last scene in which Harry says “to my big brother George, the richest man in town” without tearing up. In fact just narrating that line has made me kind of sniffle a bit.

Hey kids- Merry Christmas!
We had a Nice day with some of my family. We were kinda nervous about getting together, but it was a smallish group and we think they were all pretty safe.
We were looking at photos of previous Christmas’, way back to the 1970’s and ‘80’s with the diva glasses and big hair.
There are a lot of good memories, but I think my favorites are still those Christmas eves with Kellys side.

Rise and Shine Baboons,
Yesterday was Christmas and it felt like a Sunday. On Christmas Eve we attended a socially distanced, masked Candlelight Service. We attend church on Sunday. Today is Monday. No wait, it IS Sunday. But in the UK it is Boxing Day. Here it is After Christmas Shopping the Sale Day on a Monday. No. Wait. It is Sunday. The Vikings play today. It must be Sunday. But last week they played on a Monday.

Now we are relaxing after grocery shopping as a snow storm moves in, and we can watch the snow fly. Daughter made it back to the Seatac airport as Seattle is in a winter storm warning and a friend braved the storm to drive her back to Tacoma.

I think Joan Baez might have been my first Christmas album. In the 70’s I listened to a lot of singer-songwriters, and there weren’t a lot of Christmas albums by most of them. Around the late 80’s and90’s there seemed to be an explosion of them. Everybody has a Christmas album now. Or at least they’ve done covers for Christmas compilations.
Emmylou Harris’sLight of the Stable was also a favorite, and John Fahey’s lovely collection of guitar instrumentals. These days I listen to Nowell Sing We Clear in the car as I’m running errands throughout December and at least through the Twelve Days of Christmas.
