Trick or Bleat!

Be nice to the kids tonight, especially if Barb and Steve’s crew rings your doorbell!

Happy Halloween from Luna, Kona, Crema, Alba and Dream.

  1. pretty spooky! that’s what they’re doing when it’s so quiet out there.

we used to get over a hundred kids coming to our door in Duluth. now we live at the end of our little town road – who would be crazy enough to come down a long, dark, road that has a sign that says “dead end” on Halloween? we still buy candy though. 3 Musketeers for Steve; Snickers for me –
Happy Halloween (or Happy Reformation Day), All!

we live at the end of a long driveway and have less than 25 kids a year in the 5 years we have need in this house. my 4th grader will go out as alice in wonderland this year. her sister the 21 year old will take her out and go as cat in the hat. the 6th grader will surprise me. she is at that age where its not cool ot get excited about halloween but then again…..
    happy halloween all

  3. Just caught up on yesterday’s postings-excellent work all. Going to throw in Alan Alda and the crew from M*A*S*H. We are at Luther this weekend (can’t start recruiting the s&h too young) for the Haunted Physics Lab. Last episode of that show aired on the only big screen tv on campus in the library (watched election returns there too)-quite the dilemma for us pre-meds, as physiology lab was at the same time-a make-up lab time was thoughtfully provided. Now, of course, every one can watch all by themselves at their own convenience-sort of not the same.

We finally decided no trick or treating this year for the 6th grader, but will get home to hand out candy. Told the 6th grader he will have to man the post so I can finally go down the block and see the house that goes all out with their decorating. Same house that collects on our block for alley plowing, so may take the check with, going as a behind-in-her-chores homeowner (way ahead on the alley plowing check though ;)!)

  4. Daughter’s WordGirl costume is done (see: pbskids.org/wordgirl). Captain Huggy Face, WordGirl’s sidekick, is also ready for action. Both took an inaugural spin out last night for a costumed birthday party and received rave reviews.

We live on a block bordered by two busy streets, so even though we live in a kid-heavy neighborhood, our Halloween traffic is often pretty light. A good year for us is 30-40 kids. This year’s handouts are Daughter’s favorite fruit snacks, so if I bought too much we can use the leftovers for lunch time desserts.

If Barb’s crew came to my door, I’d definitely give them some treats, but probably not from the candy bowl (they might try to eat the bowl).

    1. Anna – did you come to my house tonight? I didn’t see you. Even though I live on a well-lit busy street, we also get 30+ kids each year. The dogs got all worked up for each and every trick-or-treater.

The teenager decided against going around this year. Instead she and a girlfriend of hers are sitting downstairs scaring themselves silly watching some DVD and eating pizza and ice cream. I’m in my studio, so all is right with the world!

      1. Didn’t make it to your side of the creek. We mostly hit the blocks right around us. Thought about heading over, but Miss Thing was pretty tired after hitting our block on Aldrich and a few blocks down 53rd street and back.

I think we had about 25-30 at our door – our dog seemed pretty non-plussed by the evening.

  5. Those goats know how to party. Does Super Goat have a thing for Madame Butterfly?

Barb – I never did make cajeta. Couldn’t get my hands on goats milk and it just wouldn’t be the same made with moo juice. Waaahhhh!

Happy Halloween Baboons. I’m going as a baby this year.

    1. next time you stop in you can get some frozen goats’ milk – then you can make the real thing.
i like your idea for your costume.
i wonder – will we get to see pictures of all of the costumes? that would be fun if everyone sent in pictures of kids, grandkids, themselves, etc.

and no, SuperGoat was just trying to push Madame Butterfly aside so she could ram the witch before MB could.

  6. Ah, thank you Dale for Blevins in bunny ears. And the goats are over the top. I’m just getting out my wizard cape to wear for the one child that will come to our door — we’re on a dead end street, and somewhere it’s been noted that this is not a good come-on for trick-or-treaters…

  7. My daughter is dressed in pajamas and a bathrobe, carrying a box of cereal with a fake knife in it-she claims to be a cereal killer. Her best friend dyed her hair a deeper red and is going around with a gay class mate as Will and Grace.

  8. Happy Halloween,

I would be suprised if any four legged kids showed up at our door, but I would try to find treats for them. They certainly deserve good treats of some kind as a reward for coming out in those fine costums. May be they could share their treats with you, Dale, since I think you gave them some help. Is Blevins also going door to door for treats?

We’ve had all kinds at our door including a bee, a dragon, various monsters and heros, and some older girls in fancy dress and makeup. There has been a steady trickle of kids all evening, here in Clark’s Grove. None with any thing as unique as your daughter’s cereal killer idea, Renee.

  9. Wow! Busy night for us. Our new neighborhood is more closely built and densely populated with kids, so we had 2-3 times more than what we had at our old house, but I was prepared with lots of candy. My 13-yr old still likes to trick or treat, so I draped him in a bed sheet with some foil decorations to go as Zeus with a silvery thunderbolt. I’m so lame — I hate buying new costumes, especially at this age.

    Those goats are absolutely adorable!

  10. Happy Halloween everyone!

We’re the scary driveway out in the boonies so no trick or treaters for us either… dang; guess we have to eat the candy ourselves.

  11. Thanks for checking in, everyone.
Halloween in my neighborhood is pandemonium.
We gave away our usual 500 garden variety mini-candy bar treats. The difference this year – larger clumps of trick-or-treaters and an earlier start. Mobs of kids (and near-adults). They were lined up at the door.
We were cleaned out well before 8pm.

    1. I have extras if you are feeling bereft – though I should tell you that what I have left is taffy and fruit snacks. (Unless you’re willing to sneak treats out of Daughter’s stash…which I have been known to do, she said guiltily looking at the empty M&M wrapper.)
