I was browsing through my poetry binder last weekend and, of course, came across my favorite haiku:
Fan Piece for Her Imperial Lord
O fan of white silk,
Clear as front on the grass-blade,
You are also laid aside
Ezra Pound
It made me wonder if I could find some fun haiku for spring. There are actually quite a few but I like these two:
Rise from winter’s nap
Stretch to feel the sun’s warm rays
Spring is among us
Shannon Schofield
The temple bell stops.
But the sound keeps coming
out of the flowers.
Basho
Any spring poetry that you like? Written any haiku lately?
Snow is gone next door
But I think it broke the Spring
Ours is still piled high.

Rise and Shine, Baboons,
I am impatient
For tulips and irises
Pink, yellow and green.
Rise and shine Baboons
For this weekend, shoveling
A last winter gasp.

I will repeat my dad’s really old, really lame “Dad Joke.”
She’s a poet
She doesn’t know it.
Her feet are Longfellows.

Love Kay Starr.
In honor of spring and baseball, will also be watching the movie It Happens Every Spring. A comedic role for Ray Milland.

There’s this childhood jingle I just remembered –
Spring has sprung
The grass is riz
I wonder where
The flowers is.

Ooh, this one was tacked on the back of the stall door in the dorm restroom. This is just the first four stanzas, my favorites.
“sweet spring is your
time is my time is our
time for springtime is lovetime
and viva sweet love
(all the merry little birds are
flying in the floating in the
very spirits singing in
are winging in the blossoming)
lovers go and lovers come
awandering awondering
but any two are perfectly
alone there’s nobody else alive
(such a sky and such a sun
i never knew and neither did you
and everybody never breathed
quite so many kinds of yes)
…
