Pet Politics

Just a bit of whimsy today.

Husband and I decided that our Cesky Terrier’s political leanings would be Socialist. He feels best as part of a pack. He thinks we need to share our food, our space, our time, with him and each other.

Our Welsh Terriers would definitely have voted Libertarian. They disliked regulations and any rule they considered too restrictive. They wanted to be left to their own devices, running free.

Our cats would have had varying political leanings but all would have gleefully participated in dirty tricks against their opponents. Our son’s cat would be in favor of an absolute monarchy with herself as the Queen.

Where have your pets been on the political spectrum?

  1. A whimsical proposition indeed, deserving of at least a few minutes consideration. I consider Ernie, one and a half years old, dachshund, miniature Pinscher, beagle, a noble savage. Such individuals have no politics, but may be motivated by a sort of benign self-interest.

Or at least that’s what he says it is.

  2. Rise and Shine, Baboons, from JacAnon,

Phoebe is an independent without much interest in politics at all, because she wants to play.Play.PLAY. However, she will vote for anyone who will take her to the Dog Park.

Coco, the Rat Terrier was an anarchist, as was Lucky the Beagle/terrier mix. Running and squirrel-chasing were primary interests but their energies were unfocused and manic. (Perhaps they could have run for President under the GOP). Bootsy had no interest at all in voting for anyone. However, she was devoted to eliminating vermin, especially moles. Perhaps we could have turned her loose in the Capitol.

Phoebe has been sick this week after somehow getting ahold of a cigar butt and chewing on it Friday evening. She has just started to eat again today and is still pretty low energy. Monday she went to the vet who could find no symptoms of concern, other than some weight loss, so she is now on a bland diet.

  3. My Cavalier, Bailey, was a liberal. He was generous and loving, completely friendly to all, and had a very tolerant attitude to all other dogs and humans. Pippin is a more of a socialist, believing that everything in our home is shared, including physical space. He doesn’t understand that two objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time. He tries constantly to be exactly where I am. This results in me tripping over him more often than him being stepped on by me.

He is getting old for a dog. He’ll be 15 in September. I’m starting to notice things. He hasn’t been feeling well lately, causing urgent demands to go outside immediately, no matter what. He’s also been limping and I can’t locate which leg/foot/toe. I think arthritis is catching up with him. He doesn’t want to walk much anymore.

OT: I’m not sure what is going on but I think I may have had my financials compromised. I have to call one of the three credit bureaus today. Check your credit scores.

      1. Well, I just got off the phone with a guy from “ScoreSense”, an app that I got from freecreditreport.com . He seems to think that I need to use more credit. He said to leave 1% balance of my available credit on the account every month instead of paying it off completely (which makes no sense at all to me.) Everything in my credit report looks perfect. So, why did my score drop 184 points in one week? I’m worried. My brother the banker looked the report over and he said he can’t find anything that looks wrong. One of the three companies said that I have $0 available credit on my one and only (paid off monthly) credit card. The other two companies report that I have my full amount of available credit. I don’t understand and I hate it when I don’t understand. Kurt thinks maybe it will be back to its usual healthy number next time it reports. Baffling. I was considering applying for preapproval for a mortgage for a condo here in Northfield but I guess I’ll wait.

        1. Carrying over a balance doesn’t seem like a good idea but then I’m no financial wizard.

I track credit score with only one of the Big Three, Experian.

Some some reason, the number bounces every few months from 803 to 771. Always the same 35.

        2. freecreditreport.com is a for profit. You can get a free credit report from each of the three bureaus once each year if you go to annualcreditreport.com. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, a government agency, says this: “AnnualCreditReport.com is the official site to get your free annual credit reports. This right is guaranteed by Federal law. You can verify this is the official site by visiting the CFPB’s website. Don’t be fooled by look-alike sites.”

I haven’t logged on lately, but my recollection is that they give you credit reports, but don’t estimate your scores. I get credit scores free from my credit union and two of my credit card companies. I also created an account on Credit Karma (creditkarma.com), and they always seems to be consistent and have the right information.

I would avoid freecreditreportcom and any app they recommend. This site has a troubling history of trying to get people to pay for information they should be getting free. In your case, it sounds as if it isn’t even accurate information.

  4. Morning – This is a fun question.

Our dogs kinda bounce all over the spectrum. Humphey is the old democrat, been around, seen it all, stays by your side, but doesn’t want to get involved if there’s a dispute going on elsewhere. But he’s also the first one to get in the fight if there’s a raccoon involved.

Luna might be a Q-anon. Won’t listen to anyone and does her own thing. She is food oriented.

And Bailey- She’s gotten so harassed so often, she just lays low and tries not to attract attention. But she can’t help herself and keeps engaging.

  5. I had a newt. It was definitely MAGA. Once out, it would always, without hesitation, run right off the edge the table.

The Birds are Democrats. They squabble with each other but mostly flock together for protection.

  6. I have been able to convince all of them that Democratic is the only way to vote in the upcoming election. I vote for anybody else is a vote for the next holocaust

  7. I’m not sure I can say either of my pets have political leanngs. They are both curmudgeons and they both would probably be happy living in a small cabin in the middle of Wyoming. Luckily I think they would both think it’s too much trouble to be the Unabomber! I can’t vision them willing to stand in line with other people to vote for anyone.

  8. Isabel would have been an independent. Sammy, probably Green Party. He loved to eat grass. He had socialist tendencies; he felt that all property was community property and should be welcoming to him.
