YA is waiting for a package. I’m not sure what’s in the shipment, but it left Columbus on November 20. Then it hit St. Paul, Minneapolis, San Antonio, Puerto Rico, Jacksonville, Chicago. Four days ago it got back to Minneapolis but apparently has moved from one Minneapolis station to another. Supposedly it’s out for delivery today (Tuesday).
I had a trip once that went really awry. It was supposed to be Minneapolis to Chicago to Barcelona. The ship was departing Barcelona at 5 p.m. Chicago got delayed so I jumped onto a flight to New Jersey. Was going to taxi to LaGuardia but the flight I wanted was also delayed. So I ended up on a flight to Frankfurt. I literally missed the flight from Frankfurt to Barcelona by minutes. The door had closed but they plane was still sitting there. I even tried bribery. It was now noon. They put me on a quick jump to Munich where I thankfully got on the plane on time to Barcelona. Luckily no delay. I got to Barcelona at 4 p.m. Managed to talk my way off the plane first and my supplier rushed me to the port. Unbelievably they held the ship departure 10 minutes for me. I was shaking a little when I checked in on the ship. The rest of the trip went very smoothly but I had to talk through all my itinerary changes a couple of times with accounting when I submitted my expense report.
I’ll do a quick update if the package actually gets delivered today. YA seems supremely unconcerned about it so I’m guessing it’s not for Christmas.
When has something gone spectacularly sideways for you?
I’ll have to narrow that one down a bit… my whole life has been lived (spectacularly) sideways!

Update. The wayward package did indeed arrive yesterday. She didn’t tell me what it was so maybe I’ll find out this morning.

Update to the update. It wasn’t a gift and it’s very funny because of the two items neither fit or made her happy so they are both being returned!!

Your mail service sounds like our mail service. I’ve seen packages take a circuitous route, but never to Puerto Rico! Jeepers! Our mail doesn’t usually arrive until 6, or 8:00 PM. I think our carrier has multiple routes, because sometimes, RARELY, it’s here at 2:00PM.
I’m sure I’ve had things go sideways too, but I can’t come up with any examples right now.
Merry Christmas to everyone here. I hope you all have nice days.
I’m enjoying a chia latte here at home, and I mixed up dough for cinnamon rolls last night. I’m about to put them in the oven. My first time!

I think it is silly some packages go by truck from Fargo, right past our town to Billings, then back to us.

The US postal service has been sideways for us all season. I sent a box of books to a friend out in New York in November. After about two weeks she began getting notices from the USPS saying her package will arrive in a day or two. A week later the box showed up on my doorstep, wrapped in plastic and with a big oil stain across the bottom and up one side. Attached was a printed note about the care the postal service takes with my packages.
Robin had ordered some photo books from Shutterfly. They were taking an unreasonably long time to arrive. When Robin tried to track them, the postal service reported they were in Centerville and would be delivered the next day. That went on for another week, each time we were told to expect delivery the next day.
We wondered where the heck Centerville was and discovered there is a Centerville in Anoka County. Curiously, two movies we watched in the succeeding week took place in “Centerville”. It was like the universe was mocking us.
Finally, we decided the USPS was toying with us and our package was lost. Robin called Shutterfly and they agreed to send another set. That set arrived in about four days. The “missing” ones showed up about a week later.

There is also a Centerville in Iowa – they might have been there…

There’s also a Centerville in Wisconsin, near Trempealeau.

Looks like there are at least 4 Centervilles in Wisconsin. I guess every place is the center of something.

I remember traveling on my own with baby Joel, returning from a trip to Colorado when he was about 6 months old. My flight from Denver to Mpls was cancelled for some reason, and they were able to rebook me, but it was several hours later. Sigh… luckily I was breastfeeding.
