Stopped by the library Saturday morning to return one item and pick up another. At the return slot, I waited between two little blond girls, excitedly putting books onto the conveyer belt that takes them into the library.
As I entered the library, a little blond girl was leaving with her mom and a massive pile of books. Inside, there was another little blond toddler; she was helping her dad swipe books at the check-out station.
After I grabbed my book and was heading out, two families came toward the library, each from opposite directions. Each family had two little blond girls who seemed excited to be going to the library.
It was clearly a little blond party. I was going to feel out of place until I remembered that when I was that age, I was blond as well – a little towhead in fact.
What kind of party would you like to attend at your local library?
A Champagne and hors d’oeuvres party celebrating one of my books becoming a NYT best-seller. 😉

And I know the library can’t serve alcohol, so I’d just bribe the police chief to look the other way. 😉

I’ll make sure to have beverages for everyone. GF and vegan hors d’oeuvres too. (Wife’s GF, so she’d make sure of it).

This is a party that I will absolutely attend.

Chris, I’ve recently become aware of https://www.mnmysterynight.com/ and was wondering if this is something you have participated in. My sister and I are going for our first time on 3/17. Friends who have gone to previous meetings say it’s good. If they ask for recommendations for future authors, I’ll submit you name and titles.

Hi Caroline. I participated in the event a year ago. I’m also part of the group that started the event, so I don’t need a recommendation. 🙂 Thanks for the offer.
Our schedule of authors is set through 2026, but if you know a crime/thriller/mystery writer we’re not familiar or who hasn’t been featured yet, please let me or the host know on at the event on 3/17. We’re always looking for writers to feature. Thanks for your interest. It’s proven to be a popular event with interesting conversations every month.

If Odd Salon had a branch here in Minneapolis, I would never miss an event. Unfortunately the only branches are in San Francisco and New York City.

Count me in for that, Wes. One of my weird writerly ambitions is to have one of my books banned by some tightasses who think literature is some evil plot to warp and brainwash others. It’s sort of a mark of distinction in my book. To me it signifies writing something so thought provoking that it stirs deep feelings (one way or the other) in a large number of people.
Don’t be afraid of words and ideas, people! (conservatives AND liberals AND everyone else.) The real enemies are those who want to control what you think, say, do, and believe.

My Yes reply above was intended for Wes’ post. I’d go to that party anytime!
Otherwise, I’m not a big party animal these days. A local authors’ presentation of their recent publications would be interesting, but that’s not usually a party. The Northfield Library is active in the community in many ways. Sometimes they host events and other times the partner with other organizations to create an event. They’re really good at staying relevant and a big part of the community. A party celebrating all that they do in our community would be great recognition for their efforts. I’d go to that too.

Nope. The older of the two could be me except that the younger could never be my middle sister. She’s been allergic to books most of her life.

I’m looking forward to the party – at my library or anywhere! – when you know who is leaving the White House, one way of another.

OT from yesterday. The winds are a steady 40 mph with gusts into the 40’s, and there is a range fire about 15 miles south of us. I can’t see any smoke here.

Sorry, winds are a steady 30 mph.

The winds are from the north west, so blowing the fire south east, away from town.

Better Late than Never, Baboons,
I am ready for a “brown dog party” at the dog park. It is so strange. Some days I take the dog there and all the dogs are her color of sable. Other days are a Black Dog Party or a White Dog Party. As soon as it dries out we will go.
PS. Left hip replacement scheduled for May 5 following two cataract surgeries in March and April. I am having a surgery binge. Most of this was delayed while I tended to husband’s needs, but this is piling up now.

Well, my coffee table is a cast iron alli-dile (or croco-gator) who wears glow-in-the-dark Crocs on his feet to protect the carpet. And, we have an upside-down Christmas tree. Does that make me quirky?
