Wells Fargo Wagon

In what will no doubt become a commonplace occurrence, a commercial space supply freighter was launched from North Carolina on Sunday with a bundle of goods destined for the International Space Station.

The Antares rocket is a product of a company called Orbital. Sending satellites into space is what they do, and this – delivering goods to distant, not readily accessed locations, is a growing part of the business. We tend to get bored when everything is carefully planned and what appears risky winds up going completely right.

Given that, this is probably the most boring video on You Tube.

The launch has lots of things going for it – #1 – lots of smoke and fire. And #2 – animation! Meanwhile, up in space, the excitement is building because there’s a visitor on the way – bearing gifts! And we’ve felt so alone, waiting for in the inky dark desolation of space for what seemed like ages!

What item could you NOT WAIT to have delivered?

  1. Good morning. I would be very happy to get food items. Any kind of tasty food that I haven’t had recently would be great. Vegetarian food would be okay and so would chicken, steak and other types of meat. I suppose fresh items might not be an option. Canned or processed food would be okay if the quality is good.

  2. Ooh, this resonates with us. We have ordered everything from furniture to cat food to live Christmas trees. There are many things we just can’t get here, and driving Bismarck and Fargo sometimes are out of the question. Our house is one of the last on the UPS and FedEx routes, so we often wait until late in the day to see if what we have ordered will be delivered. I have a hard time waiting for the Christmas tree. Husband will soon be ordering a slew of his own psychological tests for his consulting business. That will be an exciting order to get.

    1. Related to yesterday-last night i got a call at about 10:00 pm from our weary plumber who is now ready to install the gas line to the kitchen. He said he is working 6 days a week and the volume of calls for his services is totally overwhelming. The gutter guys are coming tonight to give us an estimate.

  3. Rise and Shine Baboons!

Recently I heard that some dog breeders will mail puppies. Really? I would not agree to that and I would drive to pick up the dog. That seems unduly cruel to me.

  4. I’m always anxious when I’ve got a piece of artwork coming. Got a couple yesterday. One was dinged on a corner…grrrrrrr… Currently waiting on a piece done by legendary illustrator/artist Jack Davis. Coming from Germany. On pins and needles.

  5. Are babies too obvious?

Now, my first grandchild is due in December and I can’t wait! Unfortunately, s/he will be arriving in Venice, California so I won’t be able to have the weekly grandparent/child relationship that some of my friends enjoy. But I’ve heard that Skype and the like work wonders.

    1. Thanks Lisa, for mentioning babies before I did. Compared to other adopters, I didn’t wait that long, but it seemed like forever to me.

  6. The husband of one of my coworkers delivers for UPS and he has a very rural ranch route out in the Badlands. He is part of an important support system for those folks who really live in the sticks, and gets to know them all really well. The Wells Fargo Wagon is alive and kicking out here.

    1. The delivery I’m always most anxious to receive is several boxes of Fresh Fruit Nicorette gum from New Zealand every 3 months or so. I’ve been using it for over 30 years, but in the US it’s $57 a box. Due to my drug-seeking behavior many years ago, I was able to locate a far away pharmacy that would mail it to me (free) for less than half the US price. Each time I re-order, I don’t know if it’ll take two weeks or 6 weeks, so, given the US price, it makes me nervous since the last thing I want to have to do is buy it here! People make jokes about this, saying that I’m addicted to the gum rather than cigarettes. My reply is, “It can’t be called an addiction because I’ve never tried to quit and gone through withdrawal”.

        1. it’s me – CB! Holly’s post won’t open (top) and some message says that my Adobe Flash needs upgrading. I don’t have a clue what “Adobe” even is! I guess I’m out of date – this also removed my gravatar. Any help would be so appreciated – God only knows what other Mac functions will discontinue.

      1. Cb, Adope Flash player is application software that you can download for free from the internet. If you talk with Steve, I’m sure he can walk you through it.

  7. I remember sending in the cereal box tops and the required coins for the… mail order decoder ring, or whatever… to Battle Creek, MI. The cereal box said it take from 3 – 6 weeks, but it was always at least 7 weeks and seemed like 7 months. Then it finally arrived, and wasn’t nearly as big, colorful, or clever as it looked like on the box.

Also when teaching kdgn. We’d plant those bean seeds in their little milk cartons (the wax-cardboard kind), decorate them, put them on a shelf by the widow, water them faithfully, and WAIT. And wait, and wait. FINALLY somebody’s would pop through, and then a few more the next day. There were always a couple of duds though, so I had a couple of spares planted.

  8. Greetings from Happy Valley. I’ve been silenced by arthritis and by an accident that caused me to lose the internet (and WiFi and telephone service) for three days. Losing the phone is interesting. I don’t like the damn thing and rarely use it, but when it goes out your first thought is “who can I call to get this fixed?”

    1. Renee, gutters are not difficult to install. If there is someone around who can do basic carpentry, they should be able to put them up.

    1. Cb, when you click on the comment box, does your gravatar and name appear immediately below the box? I’m guessing, not. If that’s the case, you need to log on to WP before you post your comment.

      1. PJ – no, it doesn’t appear until I write in my email and user name – but why must I do this every time I post from now on?? I see my photo after filling in this info. I’ve also stayed logged in on WP so I don’t what else to do. Posts I’ve made also don’t show up for a few minutes.

i love waiting for my ebay hat purchases and the other stuff i find on the internet. if they ever start delivering stuff by drone where they hit the button and i get it an hour or two after i order it it could be interesting.
they could put the retail industry in its ear .

    1. Geez, none of my babies “popped out.” You make it sound so effortless, tim. Even my two relatively quick labors of 3 hours were a lot of effort (and pain).

  13. Can’t think of any instance when I literally could not wait for delivery. I’m good at waiting. I like the mail carriers and the UPS guys and would like them to have job security. In fact, I may order a couple of things tonight just to make sure our delivery people are well taken care of.

Pony Express! When it absolutely, positively has to be there in…two or three weeks or so.
