I’m not a huge comic book or graphic novel fan. Not sure why since I AM a super hero fan; probably because super heroes have special powers, not unlike wizards and witches. The last several years have been a real boon for super hero lovers and Stan Lee was behind a lot of that: Spider Man, Iron Man, The Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Black Panther, X-Men. It was fun to see Stan Lee in small cameos in all the Marvel movies, a little like seeing Alfred Hitchcock showing up in the films that he directed.
Stan Lee passed away on Monday at the age of 95 from pneumonia. I’m sure his characters and movies will live on but it won’t be quite the same. I’ll miss you, Stan.

i have always been a bat man kind of guy. just a quiet unassuming citizen who enjoys gadgets and retreats to the bat cave where i can don my bat appears and access all the cool stuff i need to combat the bad guys out there in gotham.
with robin, alfred and commissioner gordon as my teammates i can certainly figure out how to combat the evil trying to infiltrate the world
stan lees guys all had super powers
bat man muddled through with cool stuff instead. the bat mobile, bat copter, bat crotch rocket, and all the cool stuff in my tool belt i can certainly help all those who need help from those whose idea of making somewhere great again at the expense of the people and the planet. they must be stopped, you can still tell the bad guys because of their bad hair, horrible scowls and words of demented hatred
robin and i will answe the call
maybe being superman would be a better choice. able to leap tall buildings in a single bound has always kind of called out to me

Comic book writers don’t seem to dwell on that, do they? If you’ve ever seen the movie Sky High, the super hero parents are real estate agents in real life. It’s kind of funny.

I’ve never been a superhero fan, and I know nothing about them. It’s probably lack of imagination on my part, but batman and superman never appealed to me, and neither did `their female counterparts when they came along.
I remember my friend, Bernard Arstop, in second and third grade, drew Batman and Superman after school every single day in the playroom of the boarding school. He was good at it, but it had no interest to me. I much preferred the Donald Duck magazines, and reading about real life heroes like Dr. Albert Schweitzer.
Today, like Wes, I’m pinning my hopes on Robert Mueller. I sure hope he has the goods to topple the orange menace.

Mueller seems like everything Trump isn’t— rational, measured and methodical, unresponsive to personal attacks. In other words, Trump’s kryptonite.

I live with two superheroes. They are five years old and most days are being superheroes in various ways (usually very active, bouncy, and loud). For Halloween, they dressed up as Spider Man and Flash. If I could be a superhero, I would want to be a 5-year-old boy.

Yes, ljb – my main connection with superheroes what when Joel was that age and a little older – I knew all their names, and I remember he was ‘piderman for Halloween when he was maybe 3. There w as an article in (I think) Mothering Magazine called “Being Superman’s Mommy” that was quite insightful.
Do the Ninja Turtles count? I actually enjoyed the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Yes, BiR, I really didn’t know much about superheroes before having grandsons. My girls did not get into them and when I was young, I was oblivious, except I knew Superman flew through the air with a cape and Batman drove a Batmobile. So it’s a bit of an education watching two boys being superheroes.

I was never into Super Heros either. And IronMan is about the only one of those movies I’ve seen. Unless we count ‘MegaMind’ or the ‘Dispicable Me’ movies. Which are fun.
