This is a purely silly post for Friday. A friend posted this on Facebook yesterday, and I was entranced.

Once the Dutch part of me got past how wasteful this is, I was entranced with his creativity. I would have so much fun doing something like this. I am not a cake decorator sort of person. I haven’t the patience. But this seems so satisfying. I wonder if the creation is edible, and how he might serve it.

What is your favorite kind of chocolate? If you could make a chocolate sculpture, what would it be? What is your decorative style?

  1. I looked this guy up online because I really needed to have a question “why” answered. Apparently after he makes these pieces they go on permanent display as he has the museum as part of his School of Chocolate in Las Vegas. So I suppose if he wants to spend his time and chocolate making that kind of art, I’m not gonna complain. If I went to Las Vegas. I’d go to that museum.

    Do you think he could make a dragon for me?

  2. Just because we “can” doesn’t mean we “should.” Another example of material excess. Yes, congrats to the chocolatier for his creativity (I don’t have an issue with that), but maybe then auction it off to fund raise for a food shelf or some other charitable cause.

    Fave chocolate is 70+% dark chocolate. OR any chocolate that coats a doughnut or other pastry.

    I can’t imagine wanting to make a chocolate sculpture. Maybe I’d make a cute little cottage for a Christmas decoration, then serve it for Christmas Dinner dessert.

    Decorative style is non-offensive utilitarian. Comfort first, then pleasing to most eyes. Also throw some frugal in there but emphasize quality over price.

  3. I wondered if he sculpts using stone. I love Belgian chocolate, especially the chocolates that come in the sha pe of sea shells. I used to be able to get them at Walmart, but no more.

    One of the secretaries at work keeps a basket of various chocolates in her office for all of us to eat
    She spoils us.

    My decorative style tends toward the plain lines of Shaker and Prairie style forms , as well as antique items. I usually do not like very ornate decor–I feel overwhelmed and lost in places like the Vatican that feature the ornate stuff. I am sure Trump Tower would not be the place for me, given #45’s style apart from the behavioral/leadership/mental health issues he sports.

    I found a picture of Actor Benedict Cumberbatch sculpted in chocolate as the Easter Bunny years ago.

  5. So many favorites it’s hard to choose… I may have mentioned Wilbur’s chocolate buds – just yummy, dense – shaped a little like Hershey’s kisses but SO much better – in dark or milk chocolate. In high school there was a Russell Stover Cashew Patty that I loved – think I found it again at Owatonna’s Russell Stover outlet… is that still there, Chris?

    I would not make a chocolate sculpture, the chocolate wouldn’t last long enough…

  6. OT. And more serious but I trust Trail Baboon’s
    collective expertise.
    About monthly, I have experienced, what my recent research seems to show, hypnogogic hallucinations. The black and white images on the walls are similar to what might be seen on face carvings of Mayan temples. These happen at night in darkness. Last night’s event was troubling as I opened my bedroom door and the images flowed into the Birds aviary. Apparently, this isn’t a sign of schizophrenia and isn’t uncommon. I’ve got my annual Medicare checkup next week and will relate my semi-sleeping situation to him. I’m hopeful that talk- therapy here and with family will reaffirm that I’m not going crazy.

    1. I have had several child clients with this issue. As I recall, some if them had too large tonsils that caused sleep apnea.

  7. The dark chocolate covered almonds from Aldi are wonderful. Also chocolate peanut butter fudge made with Guittard chocolate chips.

    A chocolate sculpture would have to be done in a cold environment, ike the butterheads at the state fair. If I were a sculptor, chocolate certainly would not be my first choice of material.
