Decisions Decisions….

You wouldn’t think that making a batch of cupcakes would be a full-morning event, would you?

First, I had to decide what cupcakes to make.  I have a couple of cookbooks that embellish box cake mixes so I started there.  First there was a good looking lemon filled cupcake but this would require going to the store for lemon curd.  (In addition to the contractor being here, I’ve been trying to make inroads into what I think is just too much foodstuff in the house.)  Then I moved on to a cupcake made with juice concentrate – oops, no concentrate except apple.  Coming off the autumn, I’m a little appled-out.  Maybe a cinnamon toast cupcake – shoot, no pudding mix.  By this time I was thinking I should just use the box mix and be done with it.

Then I saw the white chocolate cupcake.  I knew I probably had the 1 cup of white chocolate chips (or the equivalent) and I knew I could approximate whole milk with the skim milk and the heavy cream I had in the fridge.  Of course, when I was pulling out the chocolate chips, I found an unopened jar of lemon curd.  Oh well, next time.

So I finally had cupcakes in the oven by 10:30 (a full hour and a half after starting this project).  Luckily I did have cream cheese for the frosting so at least I didn’t have to spend time looking for alternatives.  The cupcakes turned out pretty cute, if I do say so myself!

When was the last time it took you too long to make a decision?

  1. Rise and Shine, Baboons,

I am headed out to yet another funeral in Iowa (since late June this is our fourth funeral of a family member or a friend. Lou went to 2 services/celebrations of life 2 weeks ago.). This one is for my storied Uncle Jim. I made all my decisions in a timely manner and even had a sympathy card for the occasion. I will probably pop up here again on Friday when I am back home.

  2. I’ve had some opportunities to sell my house and move north over the summer. I’ve blown it each time by taking too long to decide whether it’s the right move or not. When you take too long to decide about something, you are actually making a decision. So I’ve decided that, for now, I’m content where I am.

  3. Constantly. It seems that the older I get, the longer it takes me to make any decision. Analysis Paralysis. Although some of that extra time is due to the fact I enjoy research, weighing pros and cons, comparing features, etc. I like to get value from my purchases (the source of most decision making for all of us, I suppose), so I’m usually not in a hurry to decide. But it’s annoying when the time comes when I HAVE to decide and I’m still not 100% sure of my choice.

    1. I know for certain that I do not need to be a billionaire. I wouldn’t even want to be a millionaire. I just want enough to have a good life and good health, with everything I need paid for. The only reason I can see for having that much money is in the case of serious illness and bills piling up. I’m just enough of a socialist to believe that all that wealth should be more evenly distributed. (Sorry, capitalists.)

  4. I like making decisions. I’m good at it and I don’t look back. But sometimes I have to wait for more information before I can make that decision. Or at meetings, Oh my, they are the worst, because the committee has to discuss it and we have to look at every angle and then we table it for further investigation, and I made my decision 45 minutes ago. Drives me bonkers.
It’s why I play so much solitare! Lots and lots of quick decisions!

Working on my machine shed shop. Lots of decisions and a few that had to wait for further work. I spend a lot of time ‘pondering’…

  5. I don’t like having to dwell on decisions either. Having a big remodeling project going on is hard… I have decision fatigue and I’ve been leaving a lot of the initial decision making process to YA. She’s happy to look at faucets, wall scones, tile, etc. I do have the final approval after she does all the work!

  6. Our township is building a new townhall. One of the supervisors is a retired home building so he’s in charge of it, and we said early on, we can’t have committee meetings about every decision; we need to let him make them.
We did get to choose carpet and tile – from the selections he had already made, haha. And I helped him lay out electrical outlets and such. I laid out a few ethernet ports while he insisted everything was going to be wireless. Yep, but now’s the time to do it. I resorted to calling him a Luddite, which he referred to as a “luddamite”. So we laugh about that. But yeah, there is a ton of decisions on building or remodeling.

  7. OT: WP is giving me the business today. I can’t like any comments. Every time I try to comment or post, I’m required to sign in again, then WP tells me that I’ve already said that even though I haven’t. So, I’m going to give up. Last time this happened, it was all okay simply by refreshing the page a day later.

    1. My work computer doesn’t like me and never lets me like things and I have to sign in too. Then today, for 5 minutes it let me like things! But that was it, no more.

  8. Husband was decisive today. He spent the night in Bismarck last night to be at work there today in the morning, but decided he had enough pain from a callus on his foot so he got a doctor’s appointment in the morning, and they got him a podiatrist appointment in the afternoon, and he had the infected callus lanced and wrapped and is on antibiotics but he still did his Bismarck evaluation and got home before dark.
