There was a beautiful full moon on Tuesday night,. I believe it was called the Cold Moon by the Farmer’s Almanac, from a Mohawk tradition. I always wonder who names the moons, and why, and who decides what the names will be. If I were to name the moon tonight it would be the Fog Moon. It is really foggy here in Brookings. I am glad we reached our destination by dark. Grandson thought that we should name the moon the Cat moon.
I don’t know what the track record for accuracy is for the Farmer’s Almanac. I don’t seem to think it is that accurate. We have a native friend who thinks he can tell how bad the winter will be by how thick the chokecherries are in the spring and how high up from the bottom of the draws some of the flowering prairie plants are growing. He is never right, but he likes to try anyway.
Come up with some new names for the full moon this year. What is your go to source for weather prediction?
Surely we gotta name at least one moon the Keith Moon. 🙂
I use Weather Underground for my weather forecasts. They seem to be pretty accurate, but the website gets so bloated with ads that sometimes it takes forever to change screens.

Woops, didn’t mean to hit reply. I use the NOAA website and type in my zip code. I find it to be most accurate and it has a good radar image so that when storms are coming you can accurately see where they are. There’s a lot of data there and it is ad-free.

The National Weather Service – weather.gov – is also ad-free. I would guess they’re likely running off the same data.

OT – Re: yesterday’s topic. I took my decorations down on the 27th and I feel much less stressed. I’ve started my annual purge the stuff routine. Every time I part with something, I feel a sense of relief. Why is that? Clutter really can make me feel a vague sense of nervousness.

Came home to nine fat business envelopes. Seven of which relate to Sandra’s costs for next year. Four of which I am suppose to call and answer a question for them immediately. Two of which I do not understand at all. On a friday before a three day weekend. I am used to their games by now. But I call this Beauracrats Perfect Timing Moon

I think the photo looks a little ghostly, so maybe Phantasma Moon?

For weather I use weather.com, and whatever it is that comes up with Windows – Microsoft something, I guess. It’s always a couple of degrees warmer prediction than weather.com, and they take turns being more accurate.
