I don’t remember when I found my donut at Sunstreet Breads… it was before pandemic, I do know that. All these years it’s my Wednesday default… donut and raspberry cream scone. Throughout all that time YA has only been moderately interested. Some weeks she’ll ask for a savory treat (spinach swirl, sweet potato chevre bundle…) and occasionally a fruit turnover of some kind. Some weeks nothing.
Then last week she asked for a donut. Doubletake on my part but I got her a donut. The gal at the bakery was surprised as well when I said two donuts. When I asked YA how she liked it, her lukewarm response was “it’s OK”.
So imagine my surprise when yesterday morning she asked “Can you get me two things?” The blueberry turnover and… wait for it… a donut. “They’re good” she commented when I looked at her as if hot frogs were on the loose.
Have you ever turned someone to the Dark Side?
The Dark Side is other people.

Indeed.

If I did, I don’t recall. Probably because I’m too busy keeping myself from going there.

I’m sure I’ve tempted my son to eat more sweets, via bribery – “If you cooperate, then I’ll get you a cookie”, something like that.

A man from our ukulele group decided to try the mandolin because of me. He’s been learning how to play it since last Christmas – haven’t seen the results yet but he says he enjoys it. He says the mandolin he bought is 140 years old. I’d like to see it. I’m not sure if mandolin playing qualifies as the dark side.

if donuts qualify, I don’t see why mandolins wouldn’t

Who have you turned to polymer clay??

If only. That would be a lot of polymer clay.

I admit to recruiting people to try it. My nieces really loved it, as have my neighbor kids. One of them makes elaborate PC dragons.

I’m hoping to lead Baboons to the dark side of rugby.

(Jacque)
My husband, Lou, who many of you have met or know, has been dealing with a medical issue that has become more of a crisis over the last 3 weeks. What started with a pinched nerve and lots of pain, devolved into no sleep over a week. After the pain was finally managed and sleep was restored, he is left with some memory problems and confusion. We don’t know why at this point, but in Physical Therapy his strength and balance are way off. So, I am the only driver right now.
He wants to attend Blevin’s at VS house on Sunday. We will try to do that. Neither of us have much knowlege of the books. The “Deer” book finally got to my name on the waiting list about the day before Lou had the pinched nerve so I had no chance to read it. I got the audio version of the Titanium book and I did not like it, so did not finish it. But we can be social!
My participation here will be slapdash for a bit, but I am reading when I can.

No like because of the trials you’re facing. Be ever so cautious with walking.

I’ll join the non-likes – sorry this has developed into a sort-of-a-crisis, Jacque. No sleep is the worst – godspeed some relief from some quarter…

It has been like watching the California pictures of cliffs or mountains that slowly slide downward into the ocean or valley below. No avalanche. Just a slow slide.
Today has been somewhat better. He is sleeping a lot now, which I think is what is needed. Pain is gone. He is off the muscle relaxer for 5 days. That was part of the problem, but not all.

Dog will be sequestered upstairs so nobody should be jumping on anybody. And the cat rarely makes an appearance when there is company!!!

Went to urologist today for review of that CT Scan I told you about. Big Relief. no cancer, but lost of issues in the bladder and prostate to be dealt with
But when I checked in at clinic, I was sent to the dark side. Woman said she was required to see a photo ID. She asked another woman to help varify it was me. I asked why. She said they don’t tell her that, only that she was to check and be very sure. She then told me I was to stop in at the financial office on the way out. I did. Waited 15 minutes, was about to walk out. Woman got off the phone and called me in. I gave my info. She asked to see a photo ID. Then she looked up my records. Said she was confused why I was there. I had a $4.52 credit. A late payment two years ago was highlighted. I said I had paid every bill promptly. She said the time between mailing the bill and getting my check was 10 days, over a weekend of course. They had not reported it to credit bureaus. She expunged the report.
I do live on the dark side.

Love this song.
I remember him, with Edie sometimes, on lots of variety shows in the 60s.

I remember bringing that one joint back to ISU with me, after my summer in San Francisco before senior year. I think I wanted to be cool, and I imagine I smoked it with my roommates, but I don’t really remember. I am sure it didn’t really turn anyone on to drugs, or the dark side…

Once in an Aldi store, when we were having shortages of certain products, the store was really low on milk. A woman I was standing next to was lamenting that they were out of 2%. I grabbed a half gallon of whole milk and gave her my speech about how whole milk is better for you, because it’s an excellent source of Omega 3’s. She looked a little skeptical at first, but she did go for it.
