If you thought that getting a degree from MIT was all work and no play, you’d be wrong.

Since 2011, if you complete Physical Ed classes in Archery, Fencing, Pistol (Air Pistol or Rifle) and Sailing, you are eligible for the MIT Pirate Certificate.  I am not making this up.

From the MIT website:

“The MIT Pirate Certificate is only made available to MIT students and is an incentive for undergraduate students to complete their Physical Education & Wellness General Institute Requirement of 4 physical education & wellness courses. It is not a stand-alone certificate. Non-MIT courses and life experience are not counted towards completing the certificate. The MIT Pirate Certificate is for entertainment purposes only and does not give the recipient license to engage in piracy or any pirate activities.”

I think raising a mug of rum to MIT would be appropriate on Talk Like a Pirate Day!

How do you make a pirate angry?

    1. Rise and Shine, Baboons,

Wessew, I think the most obvious pirate I can think of is your nemesis, #45. And it has become apparent that “a girl” (meaning any grown woman with power who he continues to view as a girl) can make him mad by mastering facts, by refusing to back down, and by criticizing his crowd sizes. It simply amazes me that it is that easy. However, I refuse to talk like that pirate. I cannot even tolerate hearing that guy talk. Ick. Former Pres. Obama also seems to be able to enrage the guy with crowd size “estimates”. Man, is that gratifying!

I have the CD of the LGMS with some clips of Jim Ed doing his Piratical routine, but I cannot post it here. Maybe I will just listen and laugh for myself today.

      Aye, Matey. Sail On.

  1. Just now I used the Pirate Talk at the library as I checked out a Pirates Of The Caribbean video. They went crazy laughing. Another patron with three kids was listening and instead of checking out told her kids, ” Let’s see what Pirates we can watch.”
