I Spy

The weekend Farm Report comes to us from Ben.

Every time I went outside this past week I’d say “Hooo Doggie!” like Jed Clampet. It was kinda brisk.

No one was very interested in going outside.

The chickens were very happy to just hang out in the coop.

The guys working on the tower didn’t come back until Wednesday morning, and then Thursday they had a crane helping them.

Taking daughter into town one morning and I was telling her about a dream I had. (I have a lot of theater and lighting dreams). I was expounding on dream interpretation, when she said, “Okay Dad”. Ah. Point taken. I stopped talking. And I thought she was hanging on my every word.

The bathroom remodeling is in the dusty ‘sanding drywall’ phase. The guys are doing a pretty good job putting up plastic and sealing things, but that dust…it gets everywhere. Kelly taped baffles over the gap at the bottom of the doors, and even that didn’t help. I picked up my computer mouse and there was a dusty outline of that. And that was at the far end of a room with the door closed. Sigh. Part of the deal. This too shall pass. That’s Humphrey peeking through the plastic in the header photo, he’s just wondering when this will finish. Kinda like daughter. The guys know it’s not personal when she comes out of her room and yells, “WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO BE DONE!??” It’s just messing up her routine.

I’m making progress organizing the shop. Construction is basically done, other than adding shelving or cabinets, and I do have to finish installing some screws on the ground row (because I hate getting down on the ground unless I must, I put off installing those screws) and a couple other places I realized I forgot to install screws. I’ve mounted an air hose reel inside, and finished the wall outside, and moved some toolboxes. There’s a couple things I’m not sure I should mount until the electricians are finished. I’ve ordered some fancy dancy lights: A bunch for inside, a couple big ones outside the shop doors, a small one over the walk-in door, and two over the work bench.

Luna the dog. Short for ‘Luna-tic’. When we go outside, she’s so excited to be out doing something, she spends most of the time hopping on her back legs chewing on my hand. We learned a new trick where she bites a big stick, and I can spin her in circles. Well, I myself can’t spin too many circles before I fall over, but she loves it.

Bailey hates to be left out.

And all three dogs love eating the corn I throw out for the chickens. Luna will eat right out of the bucket while I’m dumping it out.

They’re all so weird.

Last week I got seed ordered for spring. This week all the necessary fertilizer and chemicals was confirmed. My goodness, nothing is getting cheaper. $30,000 this week. It’s only money!

Saturday is the Met in HD opera movie. ‘Aida’. It’s a long opera, 3 hour 15 minutes. I’ll be getting the large popcorn. And taking a nap. During the movie I mean. I can’t stand the music, but I enjoy the “production” of it all.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE FOOD TO EAT RIGHT OUT OF THE CONTAINER?

  1. I’m a sucker for those smaller tubs of ice cream. Think Ben & Jerry’s or Haagen Daz. The problem is that these containers are still about four servings and I find it hard to stop before I’ve polished off the whole thing!

I also love fried rice in its takeaway container but I can only do this when YA isn’t home .. she objects.

  2. Nuts–especially cashews. But they’re expensive and not as healthy as other nuts so I only have them occasionally. A spoonful of peanut butter out of the jar is always a nice treat too. I can also do the pint of ice cream like VS. But again, we try to keep the unhealthy calories out of the house so ice cream is a rare treat too.

  3. Rise and Shine Baboons,
If I had the nutritional freedom to eat what I want from a package it would be Cheetos, the crispy, orange strings. YUMMMM. But I do not dare do that–Iam allergic to the cheese flavoring in them, and then there is the yellow stains! I would be very sick, should I do that. The closest would be Ruffles potato chips or nuts, especially smoked almonds.

OT: Today I am at my art/craft potluck in Jordan. It will be a day of polymer clay and knitting, without political talk (a suspected, yet unconfirmed FFelon voter in the mix, causing us to avoid the topic).

      1. My Nana used to have these little cereal boxes for us at her house. And she also let us pour the milk right into the little box. She really knew how to be a grandma.

  4. I don’t eat much right out of the package–with all the little bowls and plates I’ve accumulated over the years, it would be a shame not to use them. The one exception is cheddar cheese spread in little plastic tubs. It’s addictive and easy to go overboard with it, so I count out the number of crackers I plan to use and try to avoid going back for extras.

Like Chris, I get peanut butter cravings and have the occasional spoonful rather than going through the trouble of making a sandwich.

My Saturday plan is lunch with a group of friends who all used to work for the same company. All but two have moved on to retirement or other jobs. The felon will probably come up in conversation, as we’re all on the same page in that regard (which is a relief).

  5. I have a to-do list for today and as of right this minute all the things on it are done except for one. And that’s in my studio so I’m looking forward to that and I’ll be able to spend hours on it if I want.

  6. Oh yeah, any of the salty stuff, I have to pour it in a dish or I will eat the whole bag.
I take a half gallon jug of milk to the theaters and I drink those right out of thejug. People think it’s funny to see me drink that much milk.

      1. Not only can I not believe that people would attempt to do things like this, but then they would post it after ralphing on their front porch. Explains a lot about our current situation.

      1. BiR, I’m not sure if you’re asking me or referring to the video.
I do drink all the milk at the theater, but not all in one night. It takes me two or three nights.

  7. First night in Mazatlan. Last night we strolled in La Plazuela Machado. I got some cash pesos from an ATM. We are walking to the market today to buy some fresh veggies to make a soup with fava beans. Jim is going to watch a football game, and Nancy and I will make soup. This is a very nice, comfortable little apartment with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a nice kitchen and living area. It’s on the 3rd level from the street so there’s lots of windows on all sides and a nice breeze.

All travel is an adventure for me! I haven’t slept for a couple nights because I just get too pumped about it. I’ll settle in. Tomorrow we’re going to a place called Stone Island with a larger group. Tuesday there is a trivia game. Wednesday there’s a birthday party. I’ve met some Canadians but I don’t remember their names.

  8. I eat some cereals right out of the box. Cheerios and corn chex are pretty good that way. Grape Nuts, not so much.

I used to put ice cream in a bowl when I had cats. Jory loved to lick out the bowl. So did Isabel. Now I’m more likely to skip the bowl. Eating out of the carton is fine.

    1. Wow, that’s some jam. I love how the cameras all stopped several minutes prior to the end, and the remaining filming is in black and white and pretty grainy. Thanks for posting, Linda.

  9. I guess I thought he was already dead thank you for bringing it to my attention. I really enjoyed his contribution. The band wouldn’t have been the same without him and that is an exceptionally cool jam that I’ve never seen before.
