To Be or Not To Be…

We’re coming up on the 10th anniversary of the baboons taking over the Trail.  The math is pretty straightforward.  6 posts a week times 52 weeks a year times 10 years.  3120.  That’s not exact but close enough for horseshoes.

I think Renee and Ben would agree with me that the QUESTION is the hardest part of writing so many posts.  What question relates to what you just wrote?  How many times have we asked a similar question.  Will the question lead to some good discussion during the day?  Will it be too hard to answer?  Too personal to answer?  Too inane to answer?

Richard Feynman once said “I would rather have questions that can’t be answered than answers that can’t be questioned.”  That’s all fine and good for a world-renown physicist but he never had to come up with a good question every day!

So here’s your chance to beat Richard Feynman at his own game.

What question would YOU like to answer today?

  1. How about “What is the meaning of life?” 😉 That might be good for another decade’s worth of discussion.

      1. That doesn’t answer why the radio dial doesn’t display something like 6 8 10 12 14 16. Most of the stations have frequencies between the dial numbers.

  2. How do you save money?

Why are Ben’s chicken eggs multicolored!. I know it has to do with diet and minerals, but these chickens with the same diet produce different colored eggs.

    Why is WP so moody?
I used to drive my mother nuts asking why. Why? Why? Why?

I think I am JacAnon today.

  3. Why, after so many decades of progress, is our society going backwards? (Nope. Too involved.)

Why do some people believe in superstitions, but not facts? (Nope. Leading.)

Do you or does anyone you know well, have any superstitions you’d like to discuss? (I’m reading “A Lesser Light,” by Peter Geye.)

    1. That’s a good question and one, given my nature, I immediately had to try to find out. I say try because so far I haven’t gotten an answer that satisfies. The frequencies are so irregularly distributed.

    2. that was the radio frequency assigned to am radio stations. outside that bandwidth was assigned to other stuff like police band or garage door openers or whatever

  4. My father would, at intervals, burst into song, but sing only one line of the song. He often sang “Who threw the overalls in Mrs. Murphy’s chowder?”

        1. my version is “the cow kicked nellie in the belly in the barn
and the response is “and the old man said it wouldnt do her any harm

        2. My dad‘s big silliness was to pick up the phone and say “Joe’s Morgue – you stab ‘em, we slab ‘em.” NKeeping in mind that this was way way way before caller ID, so heaven only knew who was on the other end of the phone. As a teenager I was mortified by this

  5. Just one of those rhetorical songs like “Who Takes Care of the Caretaker’s Daughter (While the Caretaker’s Busy Taking Care)?

  6. I think most of the questions are thought-provoking and provide a variety of entertaining and instructive answers by Baboons. Last night I had to turn on exhaust fans plus turn up my Austin air purifiers overnite due to poor INDOOR air quality (despite windows closed, no cooking!). I was shocked by the Tem Top readings (calibrated).

“Where I could go in this world to have consistent good air quality?”

Where I could be outdoors without a mask on most of the time and not feel trapped indoors. Last night the AQI was over 100 with high Nitrogen dioxide, PM 10 and PM 2.5 despite it being a Sunday with less driving.

    1. This morning the AQI here was 108. I have respiratory problems when it’s over 60, so I closed up the house.

    1. I remember with my mom, I read some articles about the situation that said to see if we can go with them to their otherworld, rather than try and bring them back to our reality. Not always easy…

  7. Very thoughtful post, VS. It’s kind of alarming to realize it’s been 10 years! I’m just so grateful that the three of you are still willing to go on, with occasional “guest posts” from others…

I have thought of a couple of things lately to maybe write a post about… But do you think I can remember it now?? (I’ll try to do that now that summer break is here!)

  8. One of my theater mentors would sing, to the tune of Stormy Weather:
    “Don’t know why,
I got lipstick on my fly,
    Stormy Weather…”

Still makes me giggle. And I sing it myself every now and then.
    I suppose I could make that a question…

And again, how did Dale do it for all those years?? Everyday! So much writing! I think once a week is hard enough. Kudo’s to VS and Renee!

  9. I find it interesting that I can never predict which question will really take off – sometimes some sort of obscure detail about our lives will get a lot of comments, and something I’d thought was more “meaty” might get only a few. I realize it all depends on people’s life schedules, and who has time to comment on any given day…

  10. Went into Walgreens to pick up a few pictures I had printed. $1.98. I handed her $2. To complete the transaction I had to enter my phone number and say I was not making a donation. I keeping asking this: why to making everything involve technology that pries into our lives?

    1. There was a time when a couple of establishments that I went to on a regular basis started asking for my phone number or my ZIP Code every time I checked out. I didn’t want to do this and said so and every single time a manager had to come over and click something on the register so they could go ahead with the sale. Nobody does that anymore and I hope it’s because there were a lot people like me just making it a pain in the neck

      1. A shoe store that I used to patronize did that, and the guy at the register was a trainee, so it took several extra minutes of time from everyone in line. In the following weeks, I got emails and ads for which I had signed up by giving my data. I unsubscribed and have sent no further business their way.
