You all know I’m a little obsessed with a certain event each August. I like to be organized but normally don’t start getting going until a couple of weeks before (athough before retirement I used to request the days off several months in advance).
YA and the State Fair, on the other hand, are rarin’ to go now. In the past couple of weeks there has been a barrage of emails. Grandstand announcements and ticket offers. Highlighted fair beverages (of which there seem to be A LOT). New vendors and new foods.
YA has definitely inherited some of my love of lists; over the weekend she came into my room with a pad of paper and announced that it was time to make our food list. She started doing this a few years ago so that we remember what we want to get while we are at the fair. This list includes our favorites as well as items from the new foods email that look interesting to us. It looks like a long list but it’s spread out over several days and we don’t always get to everything. I did notice that nothing from last year’s new items have jumped to our “old favorites” list.
The floodgates are open now. I printed off all our tickets as well as my fair packing list. Can’t go off to the fair without all we need in the turtle bag. We even started a little pool of cash for the big event.
Anything you’re preparing for (or obsessing over) this summer?
My summer is consumed with the 1001 details that go into selling one house and buying another. This is on top of finishing up at work and taking care of the garden. I am exhausted.

Oh, and also the details of moving.

Such a small project!

Just trying to set aside days for bigger projects, and meeting some relatives at a half-way point between here and the cities, like Red Wing or Nelson WI.

I’ve had a busy summer so far. Not as busy as Renee, but busy enough for me. Moving is stressful and exhausting, but you get through it, and it’s all good on the other side.
I’m not a huge fan of the fair – nor any fair, really. Hot, sticky, and too many people. All that food sounds interesting to me, but that’s as far as my interest goes.
I’ll be up north during the week that the fair starts. I’m hoping for cool nights, bright stars, and calm weather.
I froze peaches and blueberries over the last couple of days. I don’t have a big freezer but it’s working so far.
I had a nasty mole removed from my left arm on Monday. Another one on my right leg comes off at the end of August. So, no really big plans.

Rise and Think Too Much, Baboons,
I do not have any one big thing right now, but I am thinking a lot about husband’s care and how to set things up for him. Part of that is responsibly parsing out resources which is too easy to obsess about. And I have two trips abroad I want to take, one in the next18 months or so, so I am starting to consider those kinds of things as well as setting up care for Lou during a period I am away. I just got signed up for the Ask a Master Gardener Booth at the State Fair, so now I will obsess about going on another day, as well. Do I, don’t I; will I, won’t I?
And I am ready to get back to some art work, which I would enjoy obsessing about. But first I need to clean my studio which has sat neglected for the last 6 months while I dealt with medical issues. So disruptive!
Renee, if you would like to come have a Dutch Fit in my lower level you would be welcome.

I admit I would rather do what I have to do now than what you are needing to do regarding Lou’s care. If I were in MN I would help you woth your studio, and you wouldn’t even have to make me angry first!

Please just send some cleaning frenzy energy my way!
PS, I do have Personal Care Attendants (PCAs) coming in to assist with Lou’s care so I am not alone in this. Some family members have also been generous with their time and love. Right now I am deciding on a new schedule because his memory and disorientation has increased in the last 8 weeks. He took a real dive in those ways.

coming home crazy is not available from the library in either print or audio so I ordered the book. We’ll see if I can find time to turn pages. That’s been a problem of late.

I have to go back to “work” work at the college on August 6. And I know I’m not gonna have my list of projects finished by then…
Gotten a lot of things done in the last two months, got a lot of things to go.

I’m going back to training with Intuit on August first. I had three months off, thought I would have made more progress on projects than I did.
