Earlier this week I thought of this song as I watched our dog navigate the space in our new home:
How much is that dog in the credenza?
The one with the beard that is grey.
How much is that dog in the credenza?
Why won’t he come out and play?
Kyrill hasn’t had much opportunity to look into mirrors until now. We had this curio cabinet with a mirror that we kept in the basement in our old house. The new house has more space upstairs, and we could move the cabinet upstairs. Kyrill saw the dog in the mirror, wagged his tail at it, and spent much of a day peering into it. He really loves playing with other dogs and wanted the dog to come out.
Kyrill’s breeder told me that his show Ceskys love to parade back and forth in front of hotel room mirrors. I wonder if they know that it is them or think it is some other dog?
What are your favorite optical illusions? How have your pets reacted to mirrors?
I enjoy the images of people holding up the Tower of Pisa.
“Mirrors for budgies good or bad” is an active debate among owners. I’m in the middle. But since I have a large aviary, there’s space for plenty of toys. No mirrors just in case it makes them obsessed with another bird.

I saw a photo once that was made to look like a person in silhouette was rolling the full moon into the trunk of a car. I smiled at that one. There were others of people holding the setting sun in their hands.
Pippin looked at the other dog in the mirror, then simply ignored it.

Rise and Start Seeing Things, Baboons,
Renee, you must be settling in to the house with Kyrill and enjoying it all now.
I love those illusions that people set up. IT is all very cleaver. MC Escher is famous for those. I have discovered, though, that my eyes and perception have a difficult time with those busy patterns, and I have to look and study them for a long time before they pop into the other image.
McGee is due for his first vet visit in a few minutes, so I will see what I can find for postable illusions later.

Today I got the printer up and running for remote printing via wifi, and set up our cd player and stereo receiver with new speakers we got at Best Buy Wednesday. It is coming together. Husband is getting the yard cleaned up so it is acceptable to our Dutch neighbors.

It might surprise you to see the state of the yards in Holland, MI, where I reside. This city, which was fairly pure Dutch, has changed. A friend told me that standards began to slip when General Electric opened a factory in the 1950s and people from “Indiana” began to live here.
Anyway, LuVerne needs some of the wonderful multi-racial mix of diversity, equity and inclusion that Holland now hosts.

All the dogs and cats that I’ve had, I have never had one that reacted in any way whatsoever to a mirror. I don’t know if that says anything about the breeds I like or the temperaments I like and my personality or what?

Mine either, or watch TV or reacted to barks or meows on TV

Arvo Part is a wonderful composer. I believe he just turned 90.

Songs about mirrors are good today, too.

I remember putting a mirror in for the chickens at one point. They didn’t seem to care. Eventually, I think I knocked it over and broke it.

Our little parakeet has a mirror, and interacts with it a lot since her mate died in mid-summer. I can understand there being a debate about it, but I’m glad she has it at this point.
Remember those Magic Eye books from the 90s, with pictures of optical illusions that you had to look at differently? They’d instruct you to fix your vision on some point beyond that of the printed page, and you’d see a different picture…
