Keen

I haven’t been anywhere the last couple of days.  No errands of any import, no lunches, no appointments, just a quiet few days.  The one downside to this is that I’m listening to a CD in the car that I have been missing.  The Woman Who Walked in the Sunshine by Alexander McCall Smith; it’s part of the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series.

A need arose for something from the hardware store yesterday so I hopped in the car and immediately turned on the CD player.  Mma Ramotswe is having a holiday and is enjoying an afternoon tea with some ladies at President Hotel in town.  As the other women are gossiping away (just as I was getting to the hardware store) this passage came up on the CD:

Mma Ramotswe lowered her eyes.  She was not enjoying this conversation, but she had to say something.  “There are many shocking things that happen,” she said.  “I see them in my work.”

One of the ladies exhaled loudly.  “You must tell us about these things some time, Mma,” she said.  “You must tell us about some of these shocking things.”

“Yes,” said another.  “We are very keen to disapprove.”

I had just taken a big swig of coffee and it was all I could do to keep from snorting it up my nose when I laughed out loud.  “Disapprove” was not the ending to the sentence that I expected but it was a better ending than anything I could have thought up on my own.

Has anything made you laugh recently?  (Book, film, kid, meme…..)

    1. It’s from one of my free photo sites. First I typed in “disapprove” and got nothing interesting. Then I typed in “grandmother” and this was about half-way down the page. I could see her disapproving but that little smirk won me over.

  1. Rise and Shine, Baboons,

This morning at Water Aerobics, we all had a good laugh. There is another, non-water, exercise studio with big windows that adjoin the pool area. Suddenly the class exercising in there starting running around shaking their arms crazily. It was the funniest sight and we all burst out laughing!

  2. Iris, our cat, gives us a chuckle when we give her catnip and she “sploots” (splays her paws out spreadeagle), and rubs her chest and belly into the leaves. Because of her massive amount of fur, when she does that she resembles a beaver pelt.

  3. Boy, where’s the rest of the crew? It is colder than a _______ ____, but…

OT: Just returned from our Monday rally – YIKES, cold and windy, I went late and left early (it’s only a half hour, but…), stayed long enough to be counted. There were still 70 crazy Winonans out there!

    1. I am a little reluctant to post about some of what I find funny of late. But if I do not laugh I will cry with grief over the state of my nation. Videos of certain visitors to Mpls-StP falling all over the ice like the Three Stooges has provided me with a lot of entertainment. The conservative “demonstrator” in downtown MPLS on Saturday, huddling in a window box while getting pummeled by a super-soaker, snowballs, and water balloons was also giving me a laugh.

But really it isn’t funny. It is sad and dangerous.

      1. Trump’s MLKjr Day speech.
“I have a dream. It’s a fantastic dream. People say it’s the greatest dream anybody has ever had. Sleep experts. Smart people. They come to me with tears in their eyes and say, “Sir, please stop dreaming so much! Our Freudian doctors can’t keep up interpreting them!””

  4. Nothing too funny here today. Husband has been owly all day, and I have had a stomach bug. We stuck by our main dish moratorium, although Husband made Rugbraud in the Pullman pan.

  5. YA got home from her program last night and within an hour she commented that we really needed to go grocery shopping. So that had to happen this afternoon but the whole scenario made me laugh. She said “do you enjoy living like you’re on the poverty line?” That really made me laugh because honest to gosh I could probably go another two weeks without having to buy food, there’s so much food in our house.

    1. We planned to go to SF tomorrow for our quarterly Costco run, but the fence company is coming tomorrow to put up the fence panels and gates, and we want to be home for that.

  6. Grandson and Charlotte (our 1-year-old cat) make us laugh. Grandson has an incredible vocabulary for being barely five years old, and I just have to laugh at the things he comes up with.

My reading has been on the serious side for many months; it’s about time to look for something that will make me laugh.
