The Cesky Terrier is a dog short in height but long in length. Our puppy is now five months old. She had gained three pounds since we brought her home. She is perhaps a couple of inches longer, but no taller. She can’t descend or ascend stairs yet. She is extremely fast and can keep up with our 4 year old male Cesky and can wrestle with him like a pro.
Our dogs love to be together, as close to one another as possible. They like to sleep cuddled up closely. Older dog can jump up on the sofa with ease. He likes to nap there. Young pup is just a couple of inches too short to jump up on her own. She hurls herself off the sofa with great abandon, though. I don’t mind the dogs on the furniture.
Mitzi comes to us multiple times a day imploring us to lift her up to be on the sofa with Kyrill. We say Up Up to teach her the command for jumping up for when she finally gets long enough to jump up on her own. She tries her hardest to jump up now, but to no avail. I don’t want to clutter up the living room with graduated step stools so she can ascend on her own right now. I predict predict in May she will Up Up on her own.
What is something you had to strive to accomplish that seemed impossible at first? How do you feel about pets on the furniture?

My 2 cats have a big weight difference. The orange tabby boy is about twice that of the little grey puffball, but that has not stopped her from taking him on for some wrasslin’. I usually intervene because it seems so uneven, but they mostly get along, so I guess that might be part of the game.
Now that spring seems to be sprung, I’m building up my daily walk. I don’t seem to have lost too much distance over the winter, so just need to mentally reset my expectations.

hitting a baseball, climbing a tree, riding a bike. getting the hang of it is the entire world of a kid. pets rule and where they go is where they go. im just a facilitator.

Creating new online accounts, and it’s not over. Even checking in virtually for a medical appointment – there is always some question that stymies me, and I just leave. I may hire the computer guru to be present while I do it, because there are a couple required now…
When we had cats, I didn’t mind having them on the furniture – what the point of having a cat if you can’t have it sitting on your lap??

Knitting. I tried it many years ago and failed. I just kept getting tighter and tighter to the point where I couldn’t go on. I thought I’d never be a knitter, so I crocheted. Now, with more time and the right teacher, I’ve learned it well, and I’m getting more confident and learning new skills all the time.
I’ve never had a pet that wasn’t on the furniture. Recently Maggie learned to jump up on the bed. I’m not sure I was ready for that. She’s a thief who will steal any clothes that I laid on the bed. I also like to make the bed before she jumps up there. Sometimes she decides to help me and jumps up there as I’m making the bed. That’s really not helpful.
We had big, exciting storms yesterday late afternoon. Lots of hail (quarter and marble-sized at my house) and about 1/2” rain in my rain gauge.
Re: yesterday’s conversation – I have two new cedar raised bed planters. I need to get over to the city compost site and get some compost. I want to fill the planters with the compost about halfway, then top off with garden soil. It will be a big, heavy job for me, and will require many trips. I was going to get some today, but it’s really wet around here from all the rain and hail. I’m going to plant some tomatoes, peppers, basil, eggplant, Swiss chard, and squash (maybe). Some plants will be in pots – probably the tomatoes.

I have no problem with pets on the furniture. The Birds are out of the aviary all day but mostly stay on top of the cage. There are two pictures they will perch on occasionally. Clean up up up is easy.

Passing my piano proficiency test in college. Can’t get your BS in Music Ed. without it. What a grind!
Pets on furniture is fine with me. But we’ve only had cats, and they’re a lot cleaner in general than dogs. They don’t slobber. Plus our cats have always been indoor cats, so they don’t bring in dirt, fleas, who knows what else.

Humphrey is too big and never did try to get on the couch or bed.
Our little Allie, the rat terrier, she was our first indoor dog and she slept under the covers with us. She was afraid of thunderstorms and would climb up over our heads during a storm.
Luna sleeps on the bed, often on my pillow, when we’re not there. Night she might start on the bed, but she doesn’t like to be touch. I think it’s previous owner baggage. I’ll try to put a hand on her and she jumps up and off. Some night she’ll sleep out on the couch. not sure what that’s all about.
There’s a lot of things that seem pretty hard at first.
A few years ago it was simply walking. I’m still grateful when I walk up a hill or carry a couple things and step over the dog. That wasn’t possible once!
