For quite some time, I avoided Hudson & Rex, a Canadian tv show about a cop and his partner, a beautiful German Shepherd Dog. But I’ve gotten hooked; it shows on a couple of different cable stations so when I find it showing, I’m all in.
I noticed a couple of weeks ago that one of those two stations plays a few ads A LOT. One of those is about a power washer. You know the kind where some guy says “after using this, I threw out my old power washer”. Blah blah blah. I mute it a fair amount.
Imagine my surprise when a box was delivered yesterday and I came downstairs to find YA assembling a little power washer. It isn’t the power washer from tv (thank goodness); she bought it with award credits from the merchandise side of her company’s business. No money actually changed hands.

She had it out yesterday afternoon, doing the side of the garage and the driveway where we had all the mulch piled up for the last couple of weeks. I guess it works pretty well; she informed me of a couple of other projects she is thinking about.
I’m glad she likes to take on these kinds of projects because it would never have occurred to me but I am a little spooked that the tv seemed to predict the power washer entering our lives.
Any cleaning projects lately?

Do better than I did. I had a stuck key two weeks ago and in helping to unstick it, I broke it further so now I have a little piece of blue painters tape over it to remind me not to use it. Luckily there’s one on the other side of the keyboard to do the job.

I spoke recently of deep cleaning in the kitchen corners; could continue and do the back alcove and top of the fridge, home to a myriad of bowls and pitchers…
The bathroom is due, wish Bill would hire out (but the travel expenses would be prohibitive).
Time to change the sheets… which is an arduous task with a queen size bed (Husband’s) that should be replaced with a twin, and my double with an antique frame that isn’t really moveable.

I cleaned out the leftover corn seed in the planter and got it ready for soy beans.
vacuumed my car the other day and took the floor mats out at the car wash and had them cleaned.
I oughta sweep the dust out of the tractor cabs…
Power washers are a lot of fun. Our first one was Electric but it would often trip the breaker.
Then I bought a gas powered one. I would love to get one of those hot water pressure washers but they are a lot of money. I have started using the attachment for Simply green (or some other cleaner / degreaser), and I bought a foam attachment as well. Haven’t used them enough to say it helps. Maybe this year!

I vacuumed out Robin’s car on Friday and wiped down the interior surfaces, then took it to a car wash for the exterior.
I also cleaned out a couple years’ accumulation of lint in the dryer exhaust hose yesterday.

In 2018, when we arrived in the USA after decades in Taiwan, I had no tools. By joining a neighborhood tool sharing cooperative, I have avoided acquiring more than a basic few. They reside in what formerly was a cat litter box, sitting on a table in the garage. I have a second litter box for “parts”. Neither has had a good clean out since 2019. Today (the 11th) I hauled a folding table and a chair out into the sunshine and started sorting. The tools were pretty clean… just some dust to clean out. But the parts were a different story. After sorting out bent nails, bent screws, drawer pull and surplus sash window attachments, that box was much lighter. Small effort was expended, maximum achievement points were gained. Sorting stuff in the sunshine may just become a new hobby.

I rented a gas power washer once years ago when my sister-in-law and her husband bought an old farmhouse with severely peeling paint. With a special nozzle that produced a flat spray I was able to strip all the paint off that house in a single day.

On Saturday we cleaned out a garden bed that hadn’t been trimmed for several years. Roses, sedum, and daylillies. I had rose thorns in my socks afterwards.

I have grown past most of cleaning. Maid does some cleaning. I do clean kitchen and bathroom ahead of her. Vacuuming is my job. Just finished hanging art in living room, so I will vacuum it tomorrow. No longer own a car. Not sure this fading eyesight will see dirt very well. Today dealing with the art I was aware colors are fading.
They have a monthly tenets meeting. I went to one today. A bunch of demanding old people.

My big cleaning project today was me. Planted a couple of shrubs, a peony, put all of my flowers into my hanging baskets and planted the bales. I was so dirty that when YA came out to have some lunch on the back steps, she took a look at me, went back inside and brought out a wet paper towel and wiped my face like I was a toddler. She said she couldn’t stand to eat lunch while looking at me that dirty.
I threw the gardening gloves in the bottom of the tub when I came in and then turned the shower on to heat up. The gloves were so dirty, I didn’t even want to put them in the wash with anything else. When I got back to the bathroom, the water in the tub was so brown, I couldn’t really even see the bottom. I’m clean now, thank goodness. Gloves did still need to go through the washing machine, but at least now they’re not quite so filthy.

OK, got the sheets changed on both beds, and cleared (most of) the leaves out of one of the front gardens. Took a load of leaves and brush to Winona’s yard waste site.
Had leftovers for dinner…

I seem to always have the weirdest cleaning challenges.
Last year I put out one of those LED candles that works on a timer, in a little lantern hanging on my west-facing porch.
During the hottest weather in the summer, the temperature got hot enough inside the glass of the lantern that the wax candle softened and started to lose its shape.
When I took it out of the lantern, there was a dead bumblebee stuck in the wax close to the bottom of the candle. Poor bee apparently got into the lantern and couldn’t find an exit.
Now I have to find a way to heat the candle enough to soften the wax and extricate the victim, without damaging the plastic LED battery compartment.
Wish me luck.
