If you remember, the organization that rescued Freya would not let us adopt her until her spay was done; it’s an inviolable rule of theirs. So technically for the last four weeks we’ve been fostering her. The rescue calls it “Foster to Adopt” and they are very serious about it. You can’t believe how much paperwork there was. Oh, and I got to pay the entire adoption fee right up front.
Anyway, her spay is done and the four-day wait (to make sure there are no complications) is done. We filled out yet one more piece of paper and coughed up one more fee of $5.00 and SHE IS OURS!
In classic fashion around here, we decided to have a little family celebration. In case you can’t read it, the banner says “Freya’s Fur-Ever Home”. I made a little cake (some dog food loaf iced with whipped cream cheese). The #1 candle is because we are her #1 fur-ever home. We put her rabies tag and her new name tag on her collar.
She thought the little cake was just yummy; we only let her eat about a quarter of it so she doesn’t get an upset tummy. The rest is in the fridge to be doled out over the next few days.
Been to any good parties/gatherings recently?

Well, last night was Callithump, the Shakespeare Festival’s annual fundraiser that is also a hilarious, any variety show put on by the acting company and staff. They raised over $42,000. There was a sort of pre-party with drinks available… It was a lot of fun.

Rise and Pet the Dog, Baboons,
Welcome to the Baboon Menagerie, Freya.
About 3 weeks ago we attended a delightful gathering in our friends’ backyard gazebo. It was prior to the heat streak, so the temperature and the surroundings were heavenly. It is screened in, so there were no mosquitos, just good company and good food. They have several of these each summer and I always look forward to the evening. Upcoming is the Arts Potluck with friends who fool around with art supplies and gossip and not talking politics because one of the people voted for you-know-who last time.
Then there is Blevins on Sunday which I always enjoy.

Congratulations, VS, YA, and Freya! Welcome, Freya!
No good parties recently. I am looking forward to hosting Blevins on Sunday. Maggie will be there – expect her to welcome you shrilly with loud, ferocious, meaningless barking. She needs you to accept her and be patient while she adjusts. She’s quite social and friendly, really, she’s just not used to having people over. I think she’ll settle down, especially since some of you are experienced dog parents.

We’re not big partiers in our family, except for celebrating Grandson’s birthday. However, Husband and I are looking forward to going to the Pollinator Party at Lyndale Gardens tomorrow. It had been an annual event to celebrate and educate about pollinators, but the pandemic put an end to it and we were afraid it was never coming back. But this year, the parks board finally revived it. Besides the informative booths and demonstrations, it features live music, food (I’m hoping they bring back honey ice cream), and tours of the flower gardens.

In Brookings. Our grandson ‘s daycare is closed on Friday, so we are looking after him and taking him berry picking at a berry farm near their home. I think raspberries, but maybe strawberries.

Probably not. We usually do teeny celebrations on the birthdays. Freya‘s birthday is Christmas so that seems like a good day to have a little extra celebration.
