Yesterday I got an email from MPR inviting me to download an e-book titled 2026 Minnesota State Fair New Foods e-book. I signed up and they sent me the e-book within a few minutes. Gotta love computers. The email also said starting Saturday I’ll be getting the Minnesota Today Weekend Edition newsletter. If there’s any State Fair news, that will be fine, otherwise it will get discontinued.
I don’t really need to have three weeks to get prepared for State Fair. We have all our tickets already. I have a little checklist for things to take. But after getting the e-book, I couldn’t help but do a little more. So I printed out the actual tickets (back-up in case the whole cell-phone-wallet thing doesn’t work) and downloaded the two fair apps. One is the official Great Get Together app and the other is called Minnesota on a Stick. We don’t use these heavily but every now and then they come in handy with show times and locations of various food stuffs that we’re looking for.
My state fair t-shirts are all folded nicely in one section of my t-shirt drawer. Back before I was retired, I would wear one every work day in August. Guess I can still do that, just at home. I have 11 shirts at this point – short sleeve. I also have one long-sleeve with a loon on it, but I’m not wearing that in August, so I don’t count it. (It doesn’t even live with the other fair shirts; it lives with my long sleeves.)
I probably won’t be able to keep myself from going to Cub in the next day or so to get our Blue Ribbon Discount Coupon books. And I might have to print out my checklist! Good grief.
Any big events coming up for you? How long do you need to get ready to hear VS drone on and on about state fair this year?

Our county fair is on this week. At risk of sounding like an old fart, it’s not like it used to be. I won’t get there.
Just finished lighting one show, starting another, a Theater volunteer party this weekend, oats to do, straw to do, concrete to do… there’s always some big event happening. I have my list. Not a spreadsheet, just a list.

Don’t anybody hold your breath about this idea. The hide and seek at the fairground is way more work than I’m willing to do. Doesn’t mean I don’t love you all though.

I might go visit my aunt in Rockford, IL, in mid August. I’m hoping my brother will go with me. It’s all a definite maybe. I won’t need a spreadsheet either. Just plenty of iced tea and trail mix for the drive down there.

Thanks, but after having been through all of my mom‘s financial papers and information in her hanging files, I think she had me beat. It was unreal, especially considering that she was 93 years old when she passed.

No big events coming up, just a lot of little ones–book fairs, bookstores, street fairs, etc., where I’ll sell books (I hope!). Just returned from CO and a surprise 70th b-day for my s-i-l.
Drone on, VS. Reading about you and YAs exploits at the Fair is all the Fair I need. Last time I was there was probably 1990 plus or minus 4 years.

**BSP– Speaking of book stores and fairs, I’ll be at Lake Country Booksellers in White Bear Lake tomorrow from 10 to noon with Rob Jung, one of my co-authors of my (our) latest thriller, The Kill Code Collective. Five authors, five signature characters from our previous books, one medical thriller. Interesting to say the least. And a darn good book based on reviews so far.
Saturday I’ll be in Northfield working the Riverwalk Market Fair in Bridge Square. That will be a special day because of the ongoing Vintage Band Festival! If you like band music of any kind (mostly brass, winds, percussion, etc., but some guitars, strings, maybe even a bagpipe or two, check it out. My 50th high school reunion gathering is coming up in September. We may have to go the the 90th birthday party for Husband’s stepmother later in September.

I am skipping my 55th reunion. The fiftieth was a lot of fun that I enjoyed a great deal. Now classmates are passing on at a more rapid clip, so I think I will remember us as we were Once Upon a Time.

I’ve skipped every single one of my high school reunions. Had a miserable time my last year in high school and I’m not in touch or interested in being in touch with even one person from my class. Even when I was in high school I had more friends in the class above me me in the class below me than in my own class. Not to mention that I’d have to go to St. Louis for said reunion. And now that Nonny‘s gone and her condo is up for sale, I don’t have any place to stay.

My 60th HS reunion is this year. Last one I attended was 45th and no one I most wanted to see was there. My expectations for this one are the same. I’m giving it a pass.

i always go often times as an organizer. im always happy with my reconnections even some who i wasnt close with in 73.
i also had good friends in 71&72 so i get included in that stuff too

Probably won’t make the State Fair this year. The big events(s) coming up for me are moving into assisted living while improving strength/stamina/independence and then selling my condo (where I have been for 44 years) and moving closer to family. I currently reside in Vadnais Heights and that’s 20 miles from my sister – she and my other sister feel it’s too far away. I’ll probably end up somewhere like Richfield or another first ring suburb.

Well, this day got away from me! What happened?
I am anticipating the state fair. My Master Gardener shift is Monday, Aug. 31 in the afternoon. That is just so much fun. In the morning I will go out to see the things I want to see. I love it all, but one day is enough. The stuff I do not experience, I use VS’ experience vicariously. My feet hurt less that way.
The Big Event is that I am headed to N. Ireland for 11 days on Sept. 5. This trip includes an art class with some of my dear friends, as well as other people from USA and Europe, including the guy who manages the retreat center where we will stay. I will take a day to travel about 45 min – 1 hour to see the stone house my Irish ancestors left behind, then tromp through a Presbyterian cemetery where the Newells and McGills are resting in peace. ( Husband will stay with my sister for a week. Then his cousin, my son, and his caregiver will finish it off until I arrive home. )

I’m going to be an election judge for the primary a week from Tuesday.
Once that is past, the state fair is of course the next Event. Then Rock Bend. Hoping for nice temperate weather.

when i met debbie i had devin and tara ages 3&5 and i think i took her once but that was enough for her. devin and tara and i went 4 or 5 more times then spencer was born and he got a year or two of limited exposure then an increase right up to the normal 5 or 6 times a year. olivia and emma both went multiple times from the get go. emma at 75 days old.
emma and olivia are now in chicago and this year olivia turned her theater degree into a theater education degree and signed on as the first theater teacher in a k-8 midway neighborhood not far from where emma enters year 4 as a high school english teacher. they are both disappointed that chicago schools start the week before abor day so they will come back for labor day weekend and get saturday/ sunday before they head back monday for class. olivias significant other is from here but his family did the fair like mere mortals, maybe every year or two for a noon to 6 serving. we are a 9-10 timetable people load up at 8 ish get to the goohers football stadium and bus in for 9 ish arrival. entry is over buy the new area with a sound sage and a couple new big deal food offerings .. the blue barn or whatever its called. long lines high prices…. get the hell out of there then start the day with deep fried pickles and a bucket of fries. depending on what day of attendance it is we are headed to the starting point of the moment. always included are animals, horticulture, food building, machinery hill, and the order and other included stuff depends on the audience. education building, art building, eco bldg animal bldg, butter heads reptiles big slide music stages grandkids rides and that kid area outside the art bldg. significant other will get a heavy dose of the faves tour. oldest son has 20 month old twins. girl is daring and accepting, boy is skittish and takes a while to acclimate and mom is probably not drinking the koolaid, noon -6 would be huge for them may with the redheads to add cousin cool to it but maybe not because twins will want to do pre 2 year old stuff a lot more than the rest of the clan will.
fireworks on the way to the bus line is a regular occurrence but so is fireworks over by the barns then walk on over to the bus line. barns at night and bus lines is the primo people watching time. all day is good but cattle barn/horse barn at night is special.
ill look and see if presale tix are available. i can buy 10 without any fear but guessing the right number isnt a big deal to save $2. i always guess high but then i get to go burn the last couple if my family is faired out. we are usually pretty close on the guesstimate but now we are at 14 in total and trying to figure it all out is a team effort. i figure on a team facebook talley before a buy.
cheese curds, cheese on a stick, pickles, fries, noodles that may or may not be there this year, others like malts, greek food, cookies, lemonade, mini donuts.
