Over the weekend I was surprised at the emotions that welled up when Renee posted Waltzing with Bears. Boy, I still miss the Late Great Morning Show.
I do have all the Keepers CDs and often ask Alexa to play a few songs from the show, but it’s just not the same. If you go to The Current/Radio Heartland online and search Morning Show Dale Connolly or Keepers Request, you can find the Keepers on Request show that Mike Pengra did for us back in 2015. I haven’t listened to it in a while but probably will today.
Another of the songs that always chokes me up a bit is The Mary Ellen Carter by Stan Rogers
And I don’t just love the mushy ones. Another of my favorites is this one:
And this one, of course.
Now I gotta go get all the Keepers CDs from the stereo cabinet.
Any favorite songs for you today? LGMS or otherwise?

Mary Ellen Carter is on my YouTube “anthems” list.
We fell in love with Slow Down, Krishna on one of the last days of LGMS.

Oh, my memory is so bad. I have a place in my heart for The Mary Ellen Carter and Little Potato too. There were so many songs! I liked Neal and Leandra’s Old Love too. So sappy, but SO beautiful.
I’ve been sitting here wracking my brain about what I recall as “The Artist Two-step.” I can’t remember who did it. Someone local? Pop Wagner? The Divers? I loved it. I also liked Terry Allen’s Truckload of Art. And of course… https://youtu.be/AvaqL9wGl9M?si=E7eSNWGBT7hCtmTS

Like mig did above, here’s another one that Dale would play at the very end of TLGMS – from a musical Hadestown:

I used to listen to the morning show on my car radio during my commute to work. I am not nostalgic about my commute to work or anything associated with my commute, or work but I clearly remember hearing this on the morning show and also where I was in the commute. That must mean something.

The band I was in once upon a time, The Flathead Cats, did this one. Such a fun song!

I remember it also from the Jim Kweskin Jug Band (at least the “Blues” part of it. )

Our daughter believed those bears hid in the trees at the NDSU Experiment Station and she would look for them whenever we drove past.
Back just now from our every 6 week trip to Sioux Falls to get the dogs groomed and to stock up on groceries. I am so glad we live in a small, quiet, town!

PJ hasn’t checked in today, and I’d be interested in what she would choose….maybe this one?

I’m late to the chat so many of my favorites have been mentioned (Mary Ellen Carter, Little Potato, Waltzing with Bears). Others were A Place in the Choir, Turning Toward the Morning, The Galaxy Song, 991/2 Won’t Do … too many to go on. I was grateful for the artists I discovered through TLGMS, like Eva Cassidy and John McCutcheon. I also appreciated the Merman warning.
The Morning Show was an indispensable part of our day. When we left for the hospital to deliver Son, we brought along our portable “stereo” so we could listen during labor (I don’t think we actually got to hear that much that morning but it was nice to have the next day).
As for songs in my head lately, I watched the video of Paul Simon singing Sound of Silence at the 9/11 memorial and now my head is full of Simon and Garfunkel, especially The Boxer and American Tune.

Interesting, Julie – those are my favorite S & G songs, too. We have an a cappella men’s quartet here that sing them both…
My son was born in 1981, while Garrison was still doing the morning show, and I listened to his morning show during labor. Such similarities!
