Do you have a weekend project?
As I look out of our front window, I see what remains of our late autumn garden. The quivering, pendulous poblano peppers hang from their branches like dark bats dangling from the ceiling of a cave.
Okay, Baboons, come up with some similes and other metaphors.
500 pages. Book discussion is Saturday so I thought I’d dig in tonight. After two hours I realized I might finish it before I went to bed. You know how this ends. It’s midnight, I’m turning out lights and suddenly remembering I haven’t check on a blog bit for tomorrow!
What’s the last book you stayed up to finish?
As I walked up the driveway yesterday afternoon, I noticed the monarchs having a party on one of my sedum plants. I don’t know if they’re really monarchs but they’re orange. They were only interested in that one plant. All the other sedum plants were bare!
What makes a good party in your world?
Last weekend I saw this dog sitting in a nearby car. The owner returned as I was standing there and I told her what a well-behaved dog she had. She said “Last week she saw a mouse in the basement and now she won’t go down the basement stairs.”
Do you have any irrational fears?
Our daughter is a social worker. Yesterday, as part of her job, she went fishing and caught a three foot long shark in Puget Sound. I don’t usually associate social work with shark fishing. How wacky!
What is the wackiest thing you had to do as part of a job?
A week ago Friday, Husband went, able-bodied, to play volleyball at the Y. He returned hobbling on a right leg that had sustained, as it turned out, the rupture of its Achilles tendon. One Urgent Care and three visits to Winona Health later, his leg is wrapped and he has been on crutches all week. Luckily the location of the tear means that he will not need surgery… just three months of not walking on said leg as it heals. SIGH.

As I prepare to mow our (admittedly miniscule) lawn, I recall the days (just a week ago) when I had only my tasks on my plate. (Poor me.)
Have you ever had to get around on crutches?
If you were on crutches, what activities would you have to give up?
Today we had summer fun at work. Out on the big patio, all the tools and t-shirts were ready for tie dying so we just wrapped up our shirts and squirted away. And I got a temporary tattoo (logo for our summer program). None of this has anything to do with my actual job, but it was fun and made the day go by a little faster.
What activity makes your work go faster?
As always, the folks at the post office always see me coming. There were Star Trek stamps this week and when I got a little too excited about it, the clerk said “oh wait, we just got a new stamp today that you’ll like.” Eclipse stamps! How could I resist?

What would YOU like on a postage stamp?
